OMFG. I grew up going to Woodbury. I have a ton of footage of us shredding there from 1989 to 1998. I tore my ACL there. I got certified in snowboarding there in 1988 when snowboarders needed to be certified to be allowed on ski mountains. Legend has it, the owner Rod inherited a fleet of old Rolls Royce cars. He would sell one each year to keep the place operational! Many times, we'd show up and no one would be there so we'd start the lift ourselves! It was so magic and raw and old school. I miss it there.

I can't believe it, I went to work twice for four months, I was a friend of its owner: ROD TAYLOR, who passed away in 2014, it makes me very sad to see that place lifeless and in ruins, those of us who were there know what it meant for rod and caroline... very good job guys, greetings from chile

Steve, you have a way of bringing empty buildings to life. As you wander around, you are always reminding us of the people that were there when it was busy. It is amazing how places go into retirement and get reclaimed by nature. I loved all the wood in the buildings and especially the room that had the two gigantic windows in the walls. Sincerely, Carly

I used to work there .. with a bunch of other Brazilians. It is in Woodbury, CT. We have some great memories over there.. some really good and some other not that nice.. one in particular isn’t that good. Back in the time we were doing a student exchange in this ski station.. it was December of 2012 and we had to deal with a crazy acidente while in duty. On the of cables that were used to bring the tubes uphill broke while hooking 4 or 5 people to the top. The tubing was just sliding down the hill with no control whatsoever and ending up crashing with the machinery down the hill. People were sent to hospital. After that we were “forced” to quit the “job” and we moved to NY. It was all over the news back there .. I believe it was the begging of the end for this ski area. It is still a great experience tho.

I worked here for years it was the best job i ever had for sure. The tires were from a tough mudder race we had there. Someone was living in that a frame probably up until 2019-2020. So many memories at this place. I’m watching this with my gf who was the one who’s writing is on the snack shack menu that was very cool to see.

@ 3:21 - "Gosh, can you imagine during the winter people used to go down these hills? I can't really imagine that anymore..." It's an old ski area, that's what people did, they went down the hills on skis and snowboards and tubes and their butts. It really doesn't take any imagination.

So this place was owned by the same person for years and years, but he died suddenly in 2014. He had it since the 1970s and he was a member of the US Olympic ski team in his day. They opened the winter after the owners death, then the next year they had to close due to a drought (couldn't make snow because the streams were dried up), and then the wife decided to sell. That would have been around 2016/2017. It was still up for sale in 2018, but obviously didn't sell or was bought and not developed/redone yet. Just wanted to give you some info on why it is abandoned.

Dang so many amazing memories here in highschool sad to see it like this.. a group of my friends in highschool would make the trip up from Danbury to shred the park at night Rod used to give us a shovel and tell us to do whatever we'd like with the park! no way that'd fly anymore I've got a woodbury edit on my channel of us snowboarding there back in 2012 or so this place and Rod will be missed by those that got to experience how special this tiny ski hill was! wish i got to experience the reggae festival they used to throw supposedly it was legendary in the area.

I really enjoyed this exploration, Steve. I don't usually comment but I sub and watch most of them. The numbers above the skis were the length (I'm pretty sure). Shorter skis are easier to ski on but not nearly as fast. Short ones are more for the beginners. Thanks for sharing.

Not sure how old them ski boots are but they start around $200 dollars and they will go up to $2,500 for the best the ones lying on the floor they probably went from $300 to $500 That's not including the skis.. or the poles or the goggles you can spend a lot of money when I used to live up in Pennsylvania we had a small house up the Poconos we would go everyday..Watched so many people break their legs or their ankles or blow out a knee..Loved all kind of winter sports now that I live in Florida I hate the cold weather...🤣🤣🤣⛷⛷⛷⛷🐢🐢🐢
