In todays video we take a visit to the state theatre in grays essex joined by 2 other explorers will and dan we explored this huge location with some amazing history
opened in 1938 and closed in 1989 with a few uses after closure it was used for filming in who framed roger rabbit and the music video deeper underground

I hope they do save it the building has been sealed again but I don’t think they will remove the piano

So near yet so far - I have seen loads of videos of this place but WHY does no-one ever go up into the splay walls and check out the organ chambers and what have you? Very frustrating.

The organ was not stolen it was removed by a guy called Peter Hammond who restores Compton Organs when Spoons bought the building he still has it in storage the pipes for the organ were stolen 6 months before it was removed by copper thief's hence why it was removed The plan was the organ was going to be restored and put back in place when the bar opened but that never happened Great vid shame to see it like this with that hole in the roof i cant see this place staying around much longer sadly

It’s been sold again and is supposedly going to be sorted out with work on the roof starting first I think let’s hope it does survive

The white grand piano was played from the organ. Hence the lack of pedal, and the equipment under the front of it. One could put the piano tab on the organ on, and the piano would play along with the organ, either from the organ console’s pedals, or the keyboards. It is not original, but was part of the mighty Compton in its later years. I hope it is has not seen too much damage. One of my favourite organ sounds is the piano paired with the xylophone and the tibia (flute) pipes.
