I would like to see MARTA resume building it. The Emory/CDC area is very congested. Tucker is fairly congested as well. And I hope they also expand the downtown street car. I think it needs to run up and down Peachtree from downtown to Buckhead somehow. The current streetcar route is very limited.

@@BL4CKKN1GHT I have abandoned my car commute in exchange for an ebike combined with MARTA. it's incredible and more people should consider it. @@BL4CKKN1GHT In 2024, Cobb County voted against MARTA or public transit expansion with resounding strength. It was narrow miss in Gwinnett county, the second largest county in Georgia, and now over 1 million, with new apartments and townhouses popping up all over for more growth. They've been trying to expand for 4 years now, and it keeps getting closer. I think in 4 years some form of transit expansion will pass in Gwinnett, it might be Gwinnett's own BRT line or light rail rather than heavy rail. Congestion is maxing out, which is going to force employers to mitigate for more late workers. When it starts hitting the economics, things begin to happen

I was born in the Atlanta metro in 1995, and my mom took me to work with her as well as to the CNN Center for lunch in downtown ATL in the late '90s/early '00s before we relocated to Birmingham, AL in 2002. Growing up in Birmingham, I went through the stereotypical "I got my license and car at 16, I'm free now!" BS. Now, in 2022, I'm back in Atlanta. Due to giving up my car upon moving to Buckhead, while I have access to the Red Line, I have friends I've made around Emory who would've been far more accessible had this been a reality.
@bobp53562 жыл бұрын
Mr. Gregor did a very eloquent job of explaining why the line was not extended toward Emory. The real reason is that those folks did not want the black folks coming to their neighborhoods.
@stevepolek42267 ай бұрын
Exactly! That is why Cobb and Gwinett said no. It seems like it continues today with the line ending at N. Springs. They extended it just a little past the station, but with 400 now hemmed in with newly constructed lanes and future toll lanes added, there seems to be no room for the MARTA line like they are planning with the line running much further north. They have been saying that for at least 20 years. All planning, no action. Atlanta needs to sell that huge chunk of land they own in Forsyth county that was to be an airport and they would have the funding for such projects.

Clayton County residents approved funds to expand MARTA heavy rail, yet MARTA refuses to begin even the prelimary steps to make it happen. East DeKalb County residents have been begging to extend MARTA rail to the eastern country line to deaf ears. Yet money is being poured into the expansion of the Interstates in the Atlanta area, the exact opposite of what other metros are doing around the country.
