I would like to see MARTA resume building it. The Emory/CDC area is very congested. Tucker is fairly congested as well. And I hope they also expand the downtown street car. I think it needs to run up and down Peachtree from downtown to Buckhead somehow. The current streetcar route is very limited.

The youth is way more receptive to public transportation and are less willing to drive. So there’s hope for the future. Personally I’d rather see marta expand heavy rail in the counties it’s already in before worrying about Cobb and Gwinnett. On top of that add more lines
@pkattk

@@BL4CKKN1GHT I have abandoned my car commute in exchange for an ebike combined with MARTA. it's incredible and more people should consider it. I commute from east atlanta to buckhead in around 40 minutes which is a little shorter than the traffic I would face during a typical morning rush hour driving through chokepoints at i-20, the downtown connector, then 400.

@@BL4CKKN1GHT In 2024, Cobb County voted against MARTA or public transit expansion with resounding strength. It was narrow miss in Gwinnett county, the second largest county in Georgia, and now over 1 million, with new apartments and townhouses popping up all over for more growth. They've been trying to expand for 4 years now, and it keeps getting closer. I think in 4 years some form of transit expansion will pass in Gwinnett, it might be Gwinnett's own BRT line or light rail rather than heavy rail. Congestion is maxing out, which is going to force employers to mitigate for more late workers. When it starts hitting the economics, things begin to happen

I was born in the Atlanta metro in 1995, and my mom took me to work with her as well as to the CNN Center for lunch in downtown ATL in the late '90s/early '00s before we relocated to Birmingham, AL in 2002. Growing up in Birmingham, I went through the stereotypical "I got my license and car at 16, I'm free now!" BS. Now, in 2022, I'm back in Atlanta. Due to giving up my car upon moving to Buckhead, while I have access to the Red Line, I have friends I've made around Emory who would've been far more accessible had this been a reality.
@bobp5356
@bobp5356 2 жыл бұрын
Mr. Gregor did a very eloquent job of explaining why the line was not extended toward Emory. The real reason is that those folks did not want the black folks coming to their neighborhoods.
@stevepolek4226
@stevepolek4226 7 ай бұрын
Exactly! That is why Cobb and Gwinett said no. It seems like it continues today with the line ending at N. Springs. They extended it just a little past the station, but with 400 now hemmed in with newly constructed lanes and future toll lanes added, there seems to be no room for the MARTA line like they are planning with the line running much further north. They have been saying that for at least 20 years. All planning, no action. Atlanta needs to sell that huge chunk of land they own in Forsyth county that was to be an airport and they would have the funding for such projects.

That provision can be observed by looking out the front/back of the trains shortly south of the i85 crossing north of Arts center. The side walls of the tunnel diverge for a bit (as visible by the lights on the walls of the tunnels). However the stub tunnels on each side only go on for something like 100-200 feet.

Cobb and Gwinnett counties or surrounding Metro Atlanta Region suburban counties voters has to vote "YES" to join Marta/to expand MARTA. Cobb, Gwinnett, and any Metro Atlanta Region suburban counties taxpayers must past the 1% sale tax to expand Marta into Cobb, Gwinnett, or any of Metro Atlanta Region suburban counties. Metro Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority needs all of Metro Atlanta Region counties which include: Cherokee, Clayton, Cobb, Dekalb, Douglas, Fayette, Forsyth, Fulton, Gwinnett, Henry, and Rockdale counties, and the city of Atlanta to vote to join and pass the 1% sale tax to expand Marta. The Atlanta Metro Region is the 6th largest Metropolitan Area Population (6,307,261) in the United States based on the 2023 U.S. Census Bureau. (1. New York (19.4 million) . Los Angeles 3. Chicago. 4. Dallas, 5. HOUSTON (7.5 million), Atlanta (6.307 million), and 7. Washington DC (6.304 million). The Atlanta Metropolitan Statistical Area Population Change(%change +3.32 in 2023)is and expected to continue to increase over the coming Decades. Atlanta is notorious for its traffic congestion. MARTA, expansion over the entire Atlanta Metropolitan Region Area, is needed to help improve Atlanta's Traffic Congestion. So help the Atlanta Metropolitan Statistical Area's Traffic Congestion Problems God Bless 🙌 🙏 👏 .

Amazing how we pay good money for taxes but we cannot get the best planners and constructors together to build projects on budget or on time. That's never going to get built. Any thought of money for MARTA heavy rail is being used for the trolley buses in Atlanta, which no one rides and the Beltline. Clayton County residents approved funds to expand MARTA heavy rail, yet MARTA refuses to begin even the prelimary steps to make it happen. East DeKalb County residents have been begging to extend MARTA rail to the eastern country line to deaf ears. Yet money is being poured into the expansion of the Interstates in the Atlanta area, the exact opposite of what other metros are doing around the country.
