This Foodtown closed down in June 2015. The Kohl's next to this abandoned Foodtown was a former Caldor department store, yet they kept the same exterior facade that was left from Caldor. I couldn’t see a whole lot of the inside of the building, but my guess is the whole place is most likely gutted out.

My family and I did our food shopping here twice a month from the late-1980’s to about 2010 or so. Good memories.

I grew up in TR in the 90s. The Caldor became Kohl's, but the Foodtown was originally Mayfair Foodtown, then Norkus Foodtown, which shut down about 8 yrs ago. From some research I did a few yrs back, both of those stores were actually Two Guys back in the day

Yeah, you're right. They kept the same exterior facade of the Caldor for Foodtown, which confused me a little lol

It's so cool to stumble upon the remains of an old store front! The Caldors that was by me turned into a Bradlees and eventually a Kohls. Unfortunately, there's no trace of the previous store's front, so you'd never know what it was before.

It was still a Foodtown when Caldor was there, Kohl's took over the former Caldor store which makes sense

I used to work at this Foodtown between 1989 and 1994 .. It opened in 1984, and at the time was the biggest supermarket in NJ at 70,000 sq. ft. .. It was always a Food Circus Super Foodtown .. someone else commented it was a Mayfair/Norkus Foodtown, but they were thinking of the Foodtown that was on Fischer Blvd. in Toms River, which is also currently empty and has been for over 10 years .. Caldor did have a similar exterior to Foodtown at the time, but when Kohl's took over, they changed it .. The entrance to Caldor was originally on the corner of the building that sticks out, which had a similar brown brick facade as Foodtown ..

Yeah I noticed that other facade at the corner and was thinking this had to be the entrance to the former Caldor. I def wanna check out that other abandoned Foodtown in Toms River, didn't know they used to have two of them there lol

I really enjoyed watching this!! I moved to Toms River in 2016. I had no idea it was a Caldor. That’s awesome!! I remember the Caldor in Linden NJ.

Actually Kohl's was the former Caldor, which makes sense since they took over a lot of former Caldor locations

Caldor was part of my childhood here in Connecticut too. Wish they were still around. I did read Ames is makes a comeback- we'll see. Thanks for the video.

I think that Ames comeback is a hoax, I haven't seen anything lately from it. And yeah, I miss Caldor so much! Target is the closest thing that resembles a Caldor at least

I used to go to this Caldor and The Ocean Count Mall a kid until they built a Caldor in my town. I had no idea the Foodtown closed. I moved away from NJ in 2008. It was definitely there in the 80’s.

What a fun Foodtown, it had the big boxed choo choo trains on tracks suspended from the ceiling. It was a place that was extremely friendly with lots of Old Timers for the free coffee. Perlmutters Shop Rite shut them down as they tried to go before the local board to renovate and where denied, sometimes its who you know, there are a few Foodtowns left. This one definately made money. Sadly it closed awhile ago. Even before Modells.

I remember when this Foodtown opened, a weekly stop with my parents. The heavy white paper bags to put your groceries in said “Super FoodTown a store for the 80’s”. Also my dad would always park further out as we would sometimes leaving ride the shopping cart down the incline. 🤣 Great memories.

My mother used to do all the food shopping at this store. The entrance by produce always had fun animatronic holiday displays like a cat rising out of a pumpkin or an animated turkey. There was an old man as a greeter who usually wore a suit. We'd get liverwurst at the deli and then I'd beg to go through the bulk candy section. They had a cookie club where kids got a free chocolate chip cookie at the pharmacy counter.

They don't even do half of the stuff you mentioned anymore whenever I go to a grocery store, times have really changed. And not in a better way in my opinion

ShopRite killed them with there new store across the highway. Foodtown suffers from dealing with C&S wholesale. The Nicholas Markets were part of the Foodtown brand but switched over to Wakefern aka ShopRite and became The Fresh Grocer at there four locations.

Pretty sure the Kohls used to be a Herman's Sporting Goods store at one point. Maybe in the mid90s

The Kohl's actually used to be a Caldor that most likely closed down in 1999 with the rest of the chain
