Thanks for the reply from R.I. Roamers. I grew up in New London County, and was active in 4-H dairy cattle circles, and met a number of Miners, Palmers, Coates, and Storeys in that neighborhood. Might have been one of their ancestors.

Hey Rich, I may have found a bit of an answer about this site, The Greater Rhode Island Roamers on facebook the admin sent me this. "I sent a pic to the Voluntown Historical Society. According to an email response, this was a mansion ("Old Stone House") built in the 1930s, supposedly quite grandiose with its own electric plant (generator). I didn't get verifiable details, so I'll go with this for now."

I used to hunt that area 30 to 40 years ago when the house was intact. The state burned it because of vandwels.

You should bring a metal detector to some of these old places. I bet there’s some cool stuff under the dirt
