The engines were Pennsylvania Railroad GG1's, they were electric and ran off of overhead catenary wires. They ran in the NE corridor at typically speeds of 100 mph. They were called widow makers because you couldn't hear them coming. There was 2 cabs in the engine one on either end so they didn't need to turn around to go the other direction. They were built from 1934 until 1943 and the last one was taken out of service in 1983

That’s what I was thinking they were electric! But was confused when I seen a fuel gauge inside the train. 100mph! That’s fast assuming from that time, also I was thinking that’s why they had 2 front ends! Awesome! Thank you for all this information, i’m just starting to get into trains! I find it very intriguing. Thanks for watching!

@@exploringwithdan7876they did use fuel to heat them and the hot water to heat the passenger cars they used to pull. They were also used for freight service. They hauled the passenger train "The Broadway Limited" from NYC to Harrisburg then were swapped out for steam or diesel depending on the era for the rest of the trip to Chicago.

@exploringwithdan7876 : 100miles is only fast for those who think time travelling starts at 88mph😂😂 the Fliegegender Hamburger (a German Diesel railcar) did 140 mph during the same time. And the fist electric train in Germany topped 140 mph in 1905. Sadly we put our efforts in other things during the 1930ies.

@@lewisschaller2078interestingly they used electric coils to heat a boiler that in turn produced steam to heat the cab and passengers cars. I’m unaware of actual “fuel” being used as that would require a generator of some type and was prohibited into penn station in nyc underground with no ventilation, thus why electrification was the primary locomotive power on the northeast corridor even to this day.

Yes respect them! They are such amazing peace of engineering. Yes this is on private property I did mention it in the video I didn’t know it at the time as I walked up the tracks and went on the right side of the train, not until I want to the other side I seen the signs. That’s when I went to talk to the locals and find out some information about them. This owned by the Leatherstocking Railway in Milford Ny, I did a video with the volunteers on the Milford train station a week before that very nice people! I did ask about a train that I heard that was down the tracks more he wasn’t sure what I was talking about but I just think he was thinking a little ways down the tracks this is like the next town, but by talking to the local I found out that it is owned by them and that beautiful home that they are looking to turn into a museum but ran out of money what I’m told. I hope my videos bring recognization of this railway and money to support and maintaining this railway. Already have so many train nuts that are going to go visit the Milford train station and didn’t know about it until they seen my video. The reason there are bars on the mail car (and also that heavy steel door) is because mail cars moved cash collected from post offices that handled US Postal Service savings accounts. You could open a passbook savings account at any US Post Office rather than a bank until 1966. That is why mail trains were targets for robberies. Also notice the mail car had a mail slot near the bottom of the car. When the train was stopped people could deposit mail right into the car.

I actually met him 2 weeks before this video! He did a video with me on the Milford Train station, really good guy! I’m guessing you didn’t watch the whole video I explain a lot about this situation, it’s ok it’s along video lol ok so when I was talking to him I asked him about a train that was on the tracks further down, I think he meant like alittle ways not being this far away he said he didn’t and it was left at that. So two weeks later I went and seen this GG1, so if you see where I park I parked in front of the train alittle ways up and walked down the tracks to the train and went right, there is no trespassing signs on the right side, so I only found out after going inside the GG1 and me at the time not knowing who owned it since I did ask the president if he knew of this train and said he didn’t I started going around to the locals, and trying to find out who owned it to tell him that I did go into the trains. That’s when I found out that charlotte valley railroad does indeed owns this train. I been trying to call the Milford train station, all I get is a voice recording and I left a message haven’t heard anything back, also tried calling the leather stocking railway and it just rings. So since I don’t live in the area I’m going to be planing a day trip down there again to talk to him, I’m also going to talk about setting up a donation for this GG1, I’m also donating what I made off these 2 videos to the Milford train station. The locomotive has the Penn Central logo and black paint still on it. Penn Central was the result of a merger of the Pennsylvania and New York Central Railroads in 1968 and lasted until 1976. @@exploringwithdan7876 I've never heard of or seen any being exported, but it's possible. (maybe the technology was exported) From what I remember from old articles in Trains, the two things that killed this locomotive was the level of PCBs (dioxin) in the transformers and the out dated electrical system. They ran on 11,000 volts @ 20hz. That was being phased out. One side note in the same article, they never knew the actual top speed of these units. I think they cruised at around a 100, but one was put on a dynamometer in the 1940s and it hit 120 and was still accelerating. The test had to be aborted because that was the limit of the dynamometer. It's surprising how many still exist considering it was a regional locomotive.

That’s what I’m being told, too heavy to transport and to expensive to fix. I’m going to try to setup a donation with the leatherstocking railway, people want to donate and come see the Milford train station. 🤞we can do something to save her. Thank you for watching!

What about the Sunglasses , when a cloudy Sky? Any Problems to show You’re Face?
@exploringwithdan7876
@exploringwithdan7876 4 ай бұрын
🤔 good question! well the sunglasses are polarized and even if it’s cloudy 80 percent of UV’s can still make it through the clouds, the name sunglasses is misleading. I also have sensitive eyes to light. But if you really wanna see my face I have over 100 videos! Check them out! Some good ones 2! Thanks for watching!

The batteries are still in the locomotive. The red batteries contain pcb’s which is can cause cancer.

I do agree with you! But with this train I do know the owners, years ago it was sold to a museum but when time came to move her she was to heavy, so they put her back on the tracks and that’s where she been ever since. They don’t have the money to restore her but I’m trying to get enough people’s attention that maybe we can set up something where people can donate! 🤞 thanks for watching!

What kind of train engine is that? It looks European not American made. There's plenty of copper in there, I'll be stripping all that copper out and to the scrap yard I'll go😁.

The engines were Pennsylvania railroad GG1’s, they were electric and ran off a overhead catenary. They ran in the NE corridor at typically speeds of 100mph! There was two cabs in the engine one on either end so it didn’t have to turn around. They were built from 1934 to 1943, last one taken out of service in 1983. Thanks to the subscriber who gave me this information! lol thanks for watching!
