We would shop here when I was a little kid. You just brought back a memory. YES, there was a K foods there in the 70's. Good call. Also the vacant land to the east (opposite side of 22) used to have another shopping mall structure that had stores and our first Little Ceasars pizza back in the early 1980s. That part of the mall was demolished sometime in the late 80s. My mother would let me drive the car around exactly where you are driving when I was 14. You could say its where I learned to drive. So sad to see Kmart, Burger King, and Kings all close in this area.

I remember there was a automotive center on the side where the garden center is. There was also a small strip mall to the right of the store in the lot. Also, at one time there was a auto parts (maybe Whitlock auto) store and a bar /restaurant in the right side of the building. Kmart got greedy and tore out the strip mall and expanded the store into a super type Kmart. It went downhill after that move.

I grew up in North Huntingdon and lived in Trafford for many years; I went to this K-Mart quite often. My mum's cousin was a manager here back in the mid 80s. 8:19 - That was a separate unit which was some other business I've since forgotten. I seem to recall K-Mart knocked down the wall and expanded into it in the early 90s. Over on the far right of the lot, there was another smaller strip mall which had a tobacco shop and a Radio Shack; it too was torn down in the early 90s.

Burger King closed because they leased the land off Kmart. Costco and Giant Eagle was interested in the land. Giant Eagle is building a Get Go across the street at the old King's restaurant location. Costco beat Giant Eagles offer to buy but back out, not sure if Giant Eagle will move forward now or not. It was rumored they wanted to build a Market district in this location.

Jose Olalde, there are some lists out there of remaining Kmarts (as of February 2020) and the latest I saw counted a total of 58: 46 in Continental US, 7 in Puerto Rico, 4 in the USVI and 1 in Guam. Most likely Kmart won't sell trough another Christmas season and will perish by Fall 2020. In the case of Sears count the same death 6 months to a year later than Kmart, only remaining the Hometown and Outlet franchised locations after the company owned stores close.
@JoseOlalde5 жыл бұрын
@@syxepop All the Kmart and Sears will go out of business on Year 2020. There starting with stores that perform alright. Then they will close the rest. Almost everyone goes to Walmart, Target or even shop on line at Amazon. Kmart is bankrupt like Toy R us and has to fire alot of people.
@syxepop5 жыл бұрын
@@JoseOlalde, what I see is that if these were ordinary business leaders Sears and Kmart would have been closed SEVERAL YEARS AGO (actually 3 of the 4 largest US banks proposed to close the chains ALMOST EXACTLY A YEAR AGO [between Christmas and New Year Day 2018-19]. I have to believe Kmart would close first, as they have already fewer stores (Sears still got ~ 150, as Jake Williams told in a brand new video his imprint, Bright Sun Films, has just debuted on Sears downfall) not lasting the whole of 2020, while Sears and their company-owned concepts would close before mid 2021, leaving the use of the name to just the franchised ones.

Putting the trailer against the wall like this one is keeps people from opening the trailer doors if loaded or empty. Usually when a driver goes home they will drop the trailer. With the garage doors in part of the fence I'm willing to bet that would've been the auto care center.

In Le Sueur, the mall owners told the hardware store owner no, when he wanted to move his store into the old Alco Department Store space, the gift store owner said it might have been because it's too much money to heat, and they don't heat it soooo, the mall owners decided to cover the gate with office cubical walls to decrease the draft, the funny part, the door is unlocked, and there is no 10% power, it's 0% power, I think the fire panel is off even, (do I send a tip to the county???) This mall I am talking about literally isn't open anytime that the drug store isn't open, other than for events, Its dead, the gift store is on its 3rd year of existing even though they had moved for the summer, the bad part about there new location was: it had mold, no air conditioning, it was small.; So after the summer they moved back to there mall store were there was plenty of space, but just on December 14 or 21 I heard they were moving to the basement because the main floor had in adequate heat. I honestly hope they can last and make it to have multiple stores, that store sells stuff such as canned goods, handmade crafts, mostly what a small town shop would sell, the catch about the owners.... They live in the populated town of Mankato which is were the closet Wal-Mart and same club is, a mall that is for a larger town, they used to have a sears, kmart, gander mountain, herbergers, gordmans, Dress Barn which it's last day was December 26 2019, a Pier One Imports which is currently in the process of closing(5-20% off I think), Lowes, Shopko. Mankato has a Fleet Farm, Scheels, Kohls, Old Navy, Hy Vee, Cub Foods, Shopko Optical, Target, Walmart, Tj-Max, 3 different movie theaters, And more. Most of those closed down stores such as: Sears, Kmart then Gander Mountain,Gordmans, Herbergers, Lowes, and Shopko(the optical center is still in the store) are all empty stores. In St Peter just 15-20 mins. South of Le Sueur the Shopko Hometown closed and they had a pharmacy there, When the store was still open, Hy Vee bought it, and in 2020 Hy Vee is going to open a Grocery Store there, had part is, I heard the pharmacy is gonna go the-bye which is a shame cause Shopko way back when bought out the pharmacy in St Peter and operated out of that space as a Shopko Pharmacy until they opened the store in 2013? I think, and now the only pharmacy is in the Family Fresh grocery store. If you want to contact me about more abandoned places in the Le Sueur are email me at my public email: discordrecordingservice@gmail.com I only created it for Discord as an alt email too.

It was literally like walking into a time warp and being back in the past 30 years. They never changed anything, never put a dime into the store, and it had a run down ghetto feeling. The die hard Walmart haters were the only ones that shopped there anymore, and they took to the local facebook pages to bitch about the going out of sale prices not being good, and how the Walmart put them out of business. It didn't seem to matter that this Kmart put the local Truvalue out of business, as well as a regional chain called Bigwheel. They also forget that Walmart popped up here like 15 years ago.
