I'm so glad to have stumbled on your video! I was born in this castle when it was the maternity hospital. Watching your video literally gave me chills especially you climbing the stairs. I had to close my eyes. I'm so glad actual workers are in your comments to dispel some of the horrifying rumors. Not saying that terrible things didn't occur, but sometimes things are printed to get attention. As the old saying goes " there's no such thing as bad press". Thanks again for your video.

I worked at Lennox Castle from 1994-2002 a few months before it closed in the kitchens. The hospital was originally used at a maternity hospital mainly for women who had children out of wedlock and gradually became the psychiatric hospital we know today. There were several wards on the land were patients lived, those buildings were pulled down not long after the whole hospital closed for the new houses that are there today. Friend of mine did the explore a few weeks ago. Sad but amazing place.

My cousin stayed in that dark horrible place, when my mum's sister had her baby she was about 13years old she took measles but instead of them coming out on her body they stayed inside & damaged her brain, she ended up like a 1 year old, when it was ready to shut down she got moved away to some other sh**h**e. Would have been 60 years old now. 💔💔

The life of this building as a psychiatric hospital spanned many years and as someone else pointed out, was also a maternity hospital at one time. You can't compare what happened at the end with what happened at the beginning. My mother-in-law worked here as a nursing auxiliary for many years in the 1960s and 70s and whilst mental health wasn't as understood as it is now, it was by no means the dark place you are describing. I visited several times and patients were well cared for and with compassion. It was in no way a cruel or creepy place. Let's not forget that even today, treatments like Electroconvulsive therapy, (ECT), still go on in limited circumstances, and on the face of it that can be seen as barbaric. Back in the day madness' and the 'mad' were truly feared and misunderstood up to the end of the 19th century and into the early 20th century. I'm glad you explored it, and it was interesting to see its current state, but I think that in some respects you over-egged what went on there.

My cousins worked there in the 80's till it closed doors, there was new law that came out that allowed people with all medical or mental illnesses to allowed the right to live in the community as we do. Later in around 2003 I worked for Leonard Cheshire Foundation I met a lady who had spent her life in Castle she had cereal palsy and was mute her Dr recognised that this lady who had lay in bed for years was super intelligent he work with her to get her an electric wheel chair and trained her to use it. She was transferred to her new home where she was very loved. They managed to get her a head controlled electronic voice so she finally found her voice. Whilst working with her key worker together the found her real family who hailedfrom the West Coast. 10 sisters and brothers who knew nothing about her, her mother told the eldest rather and sister that the woman had been born normally and was fine until she was dropped on her head by a drunk father and that she couldn't cope with her being disabled so she was put into the home she was forgotten about, her mother died before she could meet her daughter again probably guilt the woman lived to her late 70's and passed peacefully in her sleep xxx

The "patients" lived in the many wards that were built down the hill from the castle. The castle housed the nurses and was also a training school for them, the laundry was at ground level within the building and above was the many managers and such, that kept the castle working. the outbuilding you past on way up was the first castle to be built there for the Lennox family. They then decided to build a big brand new castle. The family occupied it for many years then sold the building in the 1930s ? It was then that Lennox castle Hospital came about. God bless all those wee souls.....great video. i really enjoyed the journey back to my younger days climbing those stairs lol

One thing that always surprises me about these places, whether they’re asylums or prisons, is that they stayed open for so long! Thank you. Safe travels 💛💛💛

I heard someone say patient at around 28min mark, when you were doing spirit box. If walls could talk.... they could tell a million stories The buildings are amazing, the detail still visible, big fire places, you can only imagine the hard work that went it to building it. Getting all the materials up the hill. Great explore Dave I love looking at things like this. Just open up the imagination and picture what would have been. If your going to do a spirit box why done you use the app that Kewes uses? Stay safe, take care xxx

Loving your ruins videos Dave , very interesting. Before you hear Richard when you got the spirit box out the 2nd time (28 mins time stamp) it sounds like someone is like rasping or wheezing and the Richard bit sounds the same voice as the rasping. So sad these places but I guess we will always have a natural curiosity about what went on behind closed doors in these places and feel some kind of empathy and horror at how they were treated. X

I grew up in the surrounding village around the time the place closed in 02 and "the castle" as its known locally was one of our adventure haunts as kids, the ruin you explored is just a tiny part of what the hospital actually was, and tbh all that remains of the other modern part is a small monoblock path at the new build housing estate, that was part of the main concourse, it was always thought it was a former patient that caused the fire maybe due to mistreatment, a few did live in the surrounding villages, little fun fact, celtic football clubs training ground is situated on the same land, and is well more secure than the castle ever was!

The castle itself was built in the 1830s, but in early 20th century, the space was converted into what would later become a truly infamous psychiatric hospital. Lennox Castle Hospital was eventually closed in 2002, leaving the institution’s sad and difficult history to be forgotten, just like its crumbling, abandoned former home. In 1925, plans were drawn up by Glasgow Council for a new ‘Mental Deficiency Institution’, and the Lennox Castle Hospital complex was opened a few years later, in 1936. When it opened, Lennox was hailed as being way ahead of its time, and was the largest and best equipped hospital of its kind in Britain.

I read that there was a maternity unit there and the singer Lulu was born there. Also that medical experiments were inflicted on some of the patients, such as drug trials and sleep deprivation experiments related to the CIA. It's horrifying to think that these things were happening right up to the late eighties. Those poor defenceless people, many of them children must have gone through sheer hell. Life was exstreamly difficult, for these people. A life of prison, even in the Victorian times, vunruble people were locked up. My heart, I hope gives you a strength. To tell of such horrors. We need to show love & respect always for those that suffered. But what a interesting find. Let's hope the spirits rest. 🎶🎶🎶🎶👀👀📽️📷📸🌍🌎🌏🌐🗺️💋💋💋🤔🤔🤔🇬🇧🇵🇹🇿🇦
