Yeah, I have since let go the fact that it's connected to the past since they've seemingly stopped it, but it doesn't matter since the last episodes are coming in soon. It was probably... idk, just really disappointing that it didn't go far. I loved what it was doing, Opaline was a solid villain. Misty is awesome and a great comfort character. But.. the lore about Twilight and Spike, I just.. I was excited and sorta hurt by it, knowing this was all that was left. For.. no reason really.

@@michaelbuono4007: Natural weather patterns existed even back in G4. It was explicitly one of the things that the ponies found so creepy about the Everfree forest. Personally, I never assumed the ponies controlled the weather because they had to, but because doing so made their lives more convenient and comfortable, the same way we humans install heaters and air-conditioners in our homes, just on a much larger scale.

However with the sun and moon it's self it is mentioned that celesia and Luna move the sun and if they are missing then the sun and moon either are out at the same time or one stays out. We see with nightmare moon she isn't using her magic to keep the moon out but only to bring it up in the first place. Now I am willing to accept that twilight made a way for the sun and moon to move on its own but it hasn't been stated in the show so it's only a theory.

When it comes to the everfree I think the everfree is actully normal when it comes to nature taking care of itself but ponies find it weird because they are used to the idea that they help make things happen, but since no pony lives in the everfree except zecora nature takes care of itself as it did before ponies took care of nature. That is just what I think, but I still also see Gen 5 non-canon for obvious reasons so is best to ignore that gen

You bring up a good point. It reminds me of Sonic Underground, plenty of concepts and character designs are so radically different than the norm that there’s a theory that Sonic was just inserted into it because the studio still had the license to use him. There was similar shenanigans behind the scenes on the 2015 Transformers show that came after Prime ended. G5 has potential but there needed to be some proper care when crafting it. Also people need to stop being jerks and attacking the show staff. 😠

The Gen 6 leaks, assuming they're true, are a grim outlook for MLP as a whole. You know how people rag on the original 151 Pokémon for receiving constant special treatment instead of letting the new Pokémon shine on their own? Feels like that's what Hasbro wants to do with Friendship is Magic. Constantly regurgitating the FiM hype at the expense of any new characters or lore. Which is ironic considering FiM itself was a stew of Gen 1 callbacks.

I don't know, maybe it's just because I'm old enough to have gone through this cycle with so many other favorite shows, but nothing about G5 bothers me all that much, and it's not for lack of investment. The whole reason my ponysona is named "Bookwise" is because I read so much G4 fanfiction and even wrote some of my own. Do I think G5 could have been handled better? Absolutely, but considering the behind-the-scenes production problems, it's amazing how well what we actually got turned out. Originally Hasbro had one of their internal studios that helped make the movie lined up to produce the follow-up show, but then for unrelated financial reasons, they sold it off. After that it was handed over to a secondary internal studio, only for Hasbro to end up selling that one off as well and leading to the series finally being farmed off to an external studio that hadn't worked on the movie at all. The series we ended up getting basically had to go through too layers of the telephone game before ending up with writers who basically had to start over from scratch with a cast of characters and a setting they hadn't had any part in creating. It also didn't help that due to legal constraints, Hasbro doesn't fully own the G4 cartoon and so G5 was limited on the kind of references they could make.

I like this take. The G5 product we got was the best it became while suffering through the storm of corporate mismanagement. Sad to say that not only the fans suffered, but also the creatives who were hired. Even from the beginning, G5s' A New Generation also went through the pandemic that shot it's opportunity for a theatrical release and experienced production delays. G5 really is that experiment that ultimately failed despite its best because it got cancelled abruptly in the end.

To be honest, G4 became the victim of its own success since day 1... Lauren Faust wanted to make this reboot of her childhood show from something that was considered 'sexist' and 'cooperative' into a show that will be entertaining for both kids and adults to enjoy. Yet, all these things Lauren Faust was against are what Hasbro was all about in their marketing, and the two ended up butting heads to the point that Lauren Faust left the show after its first season. She is creative with story, but not with marketing, which explains why Applejack, a wild western farming tomboy who represents honesty in a politically correct environment, would not appeal to most girls. Even the colour orange, brown, or anything remotely similar to people's skin colour has proven to not sell as well compared to bright colours such as pink, blue, yellow, white, and purple. It also explains why the fandom jokingly say that Applejack is a Background Character because of her absence in marketing merchandising. Before G5, the creators tried to reboot G4 and make the characters, especially Applejack and her name, completely different to suit their marketing and their politically correct standards. When that failed, the reboot of G4 was scrapped, and instead, we had the G5 that we had now. Even Sunny's colour is what Applejack would have been, and yet even she is the least selling of all the G5 characters. I seem to recall when Disney's W.I.T.C.H. was cancelled that the creator of Winx Club, its competitor, said that the reason W.I.T.C.H. failed was because it didn't know what the target audience it was for (just like what Lauren Faust envisioned for G4 and what it then became) whereas Winx Club (centring exclusively to girls) does, which is what Hasbro also focuses on. It is not about how entertaining the show is, it is also what sells. 4Chan is also the catalyst to G4's own success and decline. Started off as a joke, G4 ended up exploding into a fandom that followed something so enjoyable and inspiring, that the majority had no idea the fandom was forged by a website that is known to be highly notorious for its unbound sense of humour. The Brony and Pegasister Fandom ended up outweighing the target audience that Hasbro is trying to market their brand to. The only positive thing in this, despite cease and desists and lawsuits, is that this fandom can make bank out from their conventions and collectables. Yet, all good things must come to an end, and the reason of why G5 is made that way is probably to chase away the Bronies and Pegasisters in order to go back to what their brand was initially created for. There is a difference between making a unique show full of laughs, and making one that is to advertise a product. It would probably have been better for Lauren Faust to go back to making unique shows that isn't tied to a toy company, such as Foster's Home of Imaginary Friends, or even her Shooting Star and the Solar Systems idea that hadn't gone anywhere. Though another reason why she went to Hasbro to make G4 was probably because she was skint. Animation doesn't come cheap. Although now she can easily be an indie animator, or team up with Glitch. Whatever the case maybe, G4, like W.I.T.C.H., should be a telling reminder to those who want to market a product, as well as inspiration for those who just want to make stories.

Mlp Gen 4 is the last great gen for my little pony, I wish they leave it alone, we ignore Gen 5 (and see it as its own thing) and keep the good ending of Gen 4 and make something as good as Gen 4 but new and diffrent. People can catch lightning in a bottle twice we just need to see what makes the first one a success and do it again but with new ideas, stories, premise, lore, characters, style, and environment. It does not have to be the same as before

I couldn't agree more! As a new MLP fan entering a new fandom, I find it to be just like Star Wars. Yet, we have G6, and while I can't stand G5, I am looking forward to G6. I still believe, just like in Star Wars, that the sequels G5 should have never been a continuation of G4. It should have been its own story, and as such, it would hold up better. However, it doesn't hold up that well either.

Yknow, this kinda reminds me of a certain other show that the creators thought they could drag on past a satisfying conclusion to its story, and that would be Code Lyoko Evolution. The creators thought they could just make a sequel show without any of the heart and care that had been put into the original Code Lyoko and didn't care that bringing back the main villain instead of some new threat would make no sense whatsoever. And you know what? Moonscoop died because of it. They didn't respect their fanbase, or the story they had told, and it ruined them. If Hasbro weren't as big as they are, I feel them stepping on all the legacies of the shows we held dear (not just MLP but also Power Rangers and to a lesser extent Transformers) would kill them financially.

Hasbro killing G5 is so insulting to me because, even though I abhor G5, it was attached to our ponies. I don’t think anyone really wanted a continuation of G4 like this, but Hasbro made it happen. And so we have the awkward issues of: >The Mane 6 left no legacy >Twilight and the other royalty abandoned their positions and let Equestria fall >Characters who should have fought for the security of their home have no mention >Racism outright succeeded over friendship in a show where evil always succumbed to friendship And many other items that ruined the previously established cast. That is the thing that bothered me the most. These could have been avoided had G5 been its own universe, but Hasbro insisted otherwise. So…what do you do from here? Well, you need to make it work. And the problem here is that Hasbro refused. They set up plot lines in G5 that were irrelevant to anything G4 related, they focused too much on the new characters in their new situations, and all the while they let the show rot. People grew to be frustrated and, in the instant that Hasbro realized people were just done, they decided to just pick up their toys and go home. No effort to course correct, no desire to make things right. They crapped all over their forebears and decided they were fine enough. G5 should have been given more love and attention, but instead it was given the most lackluster treatment possible and made a target against itself by holding the previous and well-beloved generation in contempt. That is horrible, and I hope that they learn this lesson from G6 and just focus on making a new, separate thing so that I don’t have to have the glistening gold that is G4 ruined by whatever comes next, good or bad. It should stand on its own.

I went through a figuring out my fandom phase. I was big on seasons 2-5 then I stopped. It’s not that I didn’t like it it’s just that I got busier with life. I never felt the need to go back. I met a lot of IRL friends through it so I’m thankful for that, I have abandoned the fandom too, and that’s okay.

Cxcd did a great rundown of the poor production management of G5 which ultimately lead to its failure, which I highly recommended. How it was going to be do much more but due to a change in leadership, everything went tits up and it was made into a cheap Netflix series. It's through him that I also learned that due to a rights disbute between Hasbro and Discovery Family, that nothing from G4 could be used without permission and money. It's bizarre.

It's not "leaving the fandom" to dislike MYM and TYT. Both were soulless cashgrabs from the start. The Brony/Mareschizo fandom wad built on the love for the heart and soul of Seasons 1 and 2 of Friendship is Magic. If anything, being a fan of TYT and MYM is leaving the fandom, because you're siding with corporate mismanagement and greed over siding with demanding better stories and for characters to consistently act like themselves instead of randomly forgetting key aspects of who they are so the writers can pump out a cheap, easy "X thing us BAD!/GOOD!" storyline that they'd already done 4 seasons ago.

As well as a message to the current state of the brony Fandom. Your not the only one who.has seen what thus Fandom is becoming. I have too. Even have my own personal experiences with it. I've been a brony since around 2018 or 2019. And even though I haven't finished gen 4 (so far I have gotten to season 4. Season 3 was mainly too much cmc imo so I skipped those since their really not that substantial to any real major lessons or lore imo) I still learned alot about the Fandom and have a love for gen 4 and 5 and want to be a good person. The show gave me support through alot of my dark times... especially during the times I've messed up. Sadly that was also.the time I encountered the first of many current gen brony hatred. It doesn't just get directed at staff... it's directed at any og brony. The new bronies have forgotten what the show means. Let al9ne what friendship really is. And that's sad. I am one of the few bronies left who stand true to what the show means. And I get hated on for it. Among other things... but that's mostly a personal thing. Tho it definitely doesn't help. Lol. and I gave found the source of this brony hatred war like thing... Twitter. I left twitter a while ago due to the constant increase in drama and Elon on there... but I observed enough to know that is where it started. And since then it's spread to discord, ponytown, eqd (btw are a-holes. But we all probably know this), over mare studios (another sickening brony group that's based on fallout Equestria... way more hatred there. For dumb things... like art.), and ofc reddit. Ironically reddit and yt have thankfully not gotten so corrupted by this current generation of bronies... thank celestia. But the fact that I have seen this and many others have also... says alot about the current stats of the Fandom. It sickens me. Lots of the ogs have even abandoned the Fandom because of this. Even my closest friends have left this Fandom. I have been trying to bring this Fandom back together and show them the problems... but unfortunately I can't. At least not anymore... I was basically shunned by the fandom... tossed aside because I wasn't what THEY thought I should be. They wanted me to agree with their ideals... they wanted me to hate anyone who messes up... but I refused. Because I know that everyone messes up. Some even mess up really badly... but I forgive them. So long as they regret it ofc. Because I know the turmoil they probably are going through. I have made huge mistakes in my life. Some far worse then others. But I learned and try to do better to this day. Why? Because I messed up and wish to redeem myself. However... the Fandom nowadays doesn't support that... instead... we get death threats, harassment, mass reporting, discord server raids, some even get the authorities! All because they do not wish to listen to the shows idea of forgiveness and understanding. This is mainly the core of the Fandom current issue. This Fandom is NOT just people who like mlp. No. That wasn't why this Fandom existed... it was because we loved the show and wanted a community who felt the same in regards to the lessons it taught us and we wanted to share that with others. It started as a Fandom... but eventually grew into a loving community where we feel safe and at peace and thunk everything will be ok. The reason we connected to thus show was because it spoke to us. To our beliefs. But now that spark is gone and all that's left is hate. And those that remain... they cower in fear of being thrown out or throw away. Amd if they speak up... then a fight ensues... and sometimes the fight evolves into controversy or exposing... because of someone not liking someone and taking someones words way too deep and enacting revenge... dragging up a pers9ns past mistakes... to prove a point. To shut them up. Or to get them thrown out because they don't like them. And that is not ok. I am sure some of you will agree. Amd some may disagree. And that's fine. But all I ask is to at least leave someone's mistakes in the past. Respect them. Not everyone who messes up is evil. Some just mess up and end up wanting to do better. That is what we need to do. It's what this Fandom was based on... coming together to help eachother be better and forgive eachother for our mistakes and have fun. I read a lot of fanfics within the bigger ones you can get the feel of the writing quickly I consider G5 a bad fanfic of G4 If we consider that G5 might have been supposed to be a standalone, then we can consider what is available a not that good crossover fanfic. I've shared this thought elsewhere before, so I'll share it here as well. A large part of what I feel hindered G5 overall was just how divided the story was delivered to us. There were what, 3 different "canon" stories being told at the same time. We had MYM, TYT, and the comics all running at the same time right after the movie. I don't know how they went about directing or even planning an over-arching story to be told in that manner that would could be coherent and enjoyable honestly, especially with some points of TYT stepping on the toes of MYM. It'd be like if we had Pony Life running from the start of G4, I am someone who actually did enjoy that for what it was at the time, but that was mainly due to just how much time we had gotten with the cast and world of G4 by that point. Now something unrelated to the overall success to G5 and more so related to MY enjoyment of it in the long run. I did keep up with MYM up until the end, TYT not so much, and there was a constant thing nagging me after we got more content to watch. "Man, I wish these weren't dropped in bulk like this." This constantly would be present in my mind after watching the newest chapter, I miss watching the new episode and just seeing the conversations taking place online about it. All the fanworks that would come out themed around the newest ep has always been a joy throughout G4 for me and that just didn't feel present in G5. Maybe that is more prevalent for the TYT side of things but I didn't find much enjoyment in those compared to MYM....and even those were not holding up all that well for me either all things considered. We already had a divide starting just by there being a new gen starting up, heck it might have started more so just by how G4 ended. So having the next series also being divided might have actually done some significant harm to the product overall. If not only for the show itself, but for those that wanted to follow it. I know for myself when I was reading the comics for G5 I got pretty excited at the potential of seeing those moments in the show, mainly the abandoned Canterlot parts, but that never really got put to use beyond that. Either way I found somethings to like out of G5 and I do remain open to what comes next whenever that may be, until then I'll still be venturing to find new fan-made content while delving back into the trove of memories I've made prior.

I love G5. But G4 is always have a special place in my heart. I think we need to see more mystery about the past and try to make Spike remember faster along the way. Because not all great shows have a good first season. Other it takes other season to make it better. Like G4 season 3 and 4 got a lot better

I have the extreme feelings in both opposite directions. On one hand, I felt that what I liked about the series, was butchered after season 4. However, as the show‘s quality continued to lessen, I kept experimenting in my head if there were ways to fix it, and there always was. In fact, some of the problems made opportunities for even greater stories. This was true with other franchises too. So, even though I can completely acknowledge all the problems in a story, I’ve come to appreciate how there is no story beyond fixing.

I find it amusing that the fandom this video appeals to (i'm a casual fan of FiM) is so far up its own echo chamber that so many of the comments here seem to have completely lost the perspective that Hasbro does not make its money or "survive" off of Bronies. It sells toys to children, who watch whatever is on when they're young, and make their parents buy toys of characters they just watched. History and legacy mean nothing to Hasbro's true clientele. Therefore, just because the Bronies rejected G5 does not mean Hasbro has suffered in any significant way, or that MLP as a franchise is "dead".

The accomplishments of Twilight Sparkle weren't undone in 1 generation. The exact time is never given. The age of Twilight is considered "Ancient Equestria" in the movie so it was most likely multiple hundred if not thousands of years. It's not like the Star Wars sequel movies where everything went bad 30 years after Return of the Jedi. It's actually more realistic that pony society wasn't heaven on earth forever. Look at real world history, great kingdoms and empires that lasted for centuries are ancient history today (Babylon Medo-Persia, Greek, Rome) Spike says in Make you Mark chapter 6 that Twilights rule was peaceful for many years before Opaline came and even when she did, Twilight was successful in keeping Equestria safe. That's why Opaline is trying to get back into Equestria for the first 5 chapters.

Honestly Hasbro has made so many bad business decisions and never really knew what they had with MLP, Gen 5 could have been amazing but yet again it was let down by corporate greed and not taking a moment to look at what really made MLP special, not to mention they never really embraced the fans. My crew was lined up to pitch a new MLP series to Hasbro, but after talking to several people from voice actors, to directors, writers and producers of the show, many who have joined us or will be once we are further alone, we realized just how much of a mess things really were and decided to try to bring the magic back in another way. We set out to make something of an Orville to MLP, taking in what made FiM what it was. We have worked hard and are working to bring on many of the creative, leadership and storytelling team from both Gen 4 and 5 to build something that holds true to the spirit of FiM that we all loved. The series will be called Equestrian Tales, and is in production at this moment. We were a fan team hiding in the shadows so Hasbro wouldn't come for us, but we wont be hiding for much longer. The series pilot is underway right now and we are shooting for a release in 2026, maybe sooner if all things hold. We want to use the production to keep the spirit of FiM alive, and use it to help bring some hope back to the world and we will not turn a blind eye to any fans that might choose to stand with us to save something special. If your at all interested please keep an eye on your youtube channel, stuff has not been updated there for a while intentionally, but we plan to change that soon. We hope this will become something brony's can be proud of, and use its message to help children all over the world.

From what I understand, it wasn't even thousands of years that passed (unless you count Celestia and Star Swirl, in which case I'd say it was over 1111 years). An old pony that's featured tells that she remembers her grandmother Moondancer, which means, not even a 100 years based... And then we get the revelation that the tribes split because Twilight locked all of the magic into the crystals so that the villain could get them. I left the fandom after the Gen 5 movie came out. No, not because of that one movie in particular. I gave it a watch and I didn't like it. But, that's not my reason for leaving the fandom. I just moved on from it and focused on other things in life. I still love G4 for what it was and helped cheer me up when I needed a smile on my face ... except for season 8 -- I still consider that the worst season in the entire show. G5 isn't for me but to give death threats and harrassment to the people behind G5 is just not cool. Other people like Gen 5 and that's totally fine. I feel like a lot of peeps wouldn't care so much if G5 was just it's own thing. It really is a corporate decision to decide "Yes. Let us put the old show in with the new show what could possibly go.. " At the end of the day the show isn't made for us specifically but it's no excuse to give children not so good media to begin with. Either way the death threats are uncalled for and official G4 media should not come back especially now imho. The show had 9 seasons and it came to a definitive end so it's nice to leave the characters in that state of more to come but having the end point to be at. Shows end but fandoms keep the spirit of them alive and we gotta respect that as a community in that way. Hasbro needs to step off because it's not the fact that it's "G4 Stuff" that made G4 good it's the fact that G4 had all sorts of aspects to it that made it good a living world definitive characters great side and memorable background characters. In a setting like Lord of the Rings the impact of everything, from the elves, to the wizards and evils such as Morgoth remained in the people's consciousness for millennia. Particularly since you had creatures that lived for centuries, if not millennia, some whom would have been around to witness events like the forging of the rings, the Fall of Numenor, the Last Alliance and the like. In Friendship is Magic you had similar creatures, like the dragons (who definitely are not the same in G5, on account the ones in G4 had a variety of different forms, sizes, etc), Celestia and Luna (whom apparently just decided to not exist anymore) and beings like Discord, Tirek, Scorpan, etc. whom could have easily intervened. Hasbro said no. As a writer and a VA myself, I would like to emphasize that creatives get shafted all the time in the "creative" industry and it more often than not is less of some dream job where everything is always amazing and fun and becomes more of a dictated chore much like any other day in the office. Sure we get lightning in a bottle like G4, Adventure Time, Transformers Prime, Lower Decks, but the sad fact is that in an industry fueled by earnings, creativity more often than not dies in that environment. I know some people who thought that G4 was a complete revival of a franchise that just went away, but My Little Pony basically never had "gone away" from G1 to G3, people just didn't really care for it due to how stale it had gone with the girly stereotype image it had, until Lauren Faust happened to revitalize the brand with Friendship is Magic. Now Hasbro's trying to milk it for every cent any way they can, and with that mindset the series has basically degraded back to what it was before Friendship is Magic. It's sad but true, that in capitalism; creativity goes to die. So don't throw the actual people who have to work on a crappy series under the bus; they were doing a job, it just happened they had to work on something that wasn't good. I've called out similar accusatory actions before, like when people were sending death threats to Laura Bailey for the Last of Us Part II debacle when she had nothing to do with the production, she was there doing her daily grind as a VA who just had to voice a badly written character.

At this point, I think it would be wise to remember that MLP was always about selling merchandise - or rather, selling merch was the primary reason it was able to continue. Generation 1 was purely about selling toys, as was typical of cartoons of the time (He Man, TMNT, etc). Whilst this does not mean the show was bad (far from it), it does mean that the show would only effectively persist as long as it was a successful advertisement. Generation 2 is a curious case, as I cannot recall any actual toys specific to it, but I know very little about the matter. I may be incorrect, but it seems to be an advertisement for toys that never came. Generation 3 is an elongated advertisement, and the less said about 3.5 the better. Generation 4 was started because of Hasbro's interest in making money from reviving an old property, and thus an interest in selling toys. Generation 4 is an outlier for a reason - it was written well for what was supposed to be an advertisement. Do I think this is a bad thing? Not necessarily, but to deny that merch was a crucial reason for the show continuing would be strange. The show was nearly cancelled after season 3 because of a perceived lack of interest, only continuing thanks to the fandom. Generation 5 is an attempt to capitalise on the success of generation 4. I personally dislike it, on a purely animation standpoint. I do not watch it or engage with it. However, if Hasbro is considering a generation 6 already, it is an indication that generation 5 isn't making as much money as they planned. If rumours are true, MLP will return to being an advertisement first, coming full circle. Bronies were an anomaly, always were really. The phenomenon likely will not happen again unless there's a proper reboot - not a resurrection of used-up characters and setting. # Personally, I'd rather see the series completely re-do everything. New setting, new characters, new everything. It's unlikely, but it's not entirely unreasonable. At least then there is no risk of continuity errors and such, and so there is fewer restrictions on where the series could realistically go. But that's my ten pence, and I'm more of a furry than a brony anyway.

Honestly, G4 started slowly going downhill for me the moment Twilight became an alicorn, a narrative direction I never agreed with. Each following season had one or more little things I didn't care for, but none of it was a real dealbreaker...until Season 9. I hated *everything* about Season 9. I hated the characterization they gave to Sombra. I hated the whole Terrible Trio plot. I hated the Princesses retiring bit. (why the heck didn't Luna object to that, since she wasn't around for the thousand years Celestia was?) But most of all, I *hated* how dirty they did Grogar by having him be Discord in disguise the whole time. To this day I have never watched the finale and never will because of how angry the execution of the whole season makes me. I get steamed all over again every time it's brought up. For that reason, I was completely uninterested in G5 because I saw it for the soulless cash grab it was, and then they went even further by using G5 to basically override the happy ending of G4, Star Wars-style. Knowing I could have done a better job storyboarding Season 9 and tying G5 into G4 *in my sleep* honestly just made me more disappointed in Hasbro than anything else, because MLP is far from the only franchise I've fallen out of love with due to corporate mismanagement in recent years.

As fan g4 and g5 I want to give a huge shout out to the sequel show the good job like Lego Friends next chapter and Ninjago dragon Rising and a fairy oddparents a new wish did it a good job of making new fans and old fans and love and effort they put into. While g5 is a did not do the same thing I'm disappointed and sad also please don't attack in the comment section.

still could have written the episodes better i agree we should blame it all on hasbro BUT I DONT HTINK THAT HASBRO IS THE REASON FOR THE INCONSISTANCYS (like how did opaline become a fire alicorn after she attacked twiligth and the dragons if she was a fire alicorn when celestia and luna WERE KIDS thats on writers bro)

Personally, as a non-MLP fan and a non-brony, I hate EVERYTHING about MLP cause MLP is a bitchy show indeed. I didn't grew up watching the series cause who knows who much I could've missed out on. And also, friendship is NOT magic. MLP is dead to me, always has and always will be.
