Since you can come back to Norway in the middle of May, I recommend coming in time for the 17th of May. It is Norways national day, and it is a BIG celebration all over the country. People dress up in traditional national clothing (called a bunad), there are parades with children singing songs and celebrating, there's loads of fun activities, ice cream and hot dogs. Definitely something that would be fun to experience!🤩

Like wow, what if this was meant to be because you just had to see Norway during our peak months!? 😍 Custard will do just fine too ♥ I hope that you'll take the coastal road from Lofoten and down south again, because that's where you'll see the very best of Norway apart from Lofoten. You have Sunnmøre, Romsdalen, Stryn, Loen, Bondhusvatnet, Olden, Urke, Rampestreken (famous hike), and so, so, so much more! We live close by a lot of those stunning areas, so please let us know if you need a break from bus life to clean some clothes and relax, we'll be happy to have you, and Odin, our Shetland sheepdog will be stoked to say hi to two new besties! Also, don't hesitate to reach out if you need any extra tips for this area as my partner is a mountain guide and can give some great tips for hikes if you need any 😊 take care legends ✨

Never been to Orkney, but made it to Shetland for Up Helly Aa viking fest about 19 years ago and was blown away by the people on that little bunch of rocks out in a really hostile sea. During the festival there was a bar in Lerwick which didn't close for a week; musicians were trading seats between songs, and the landlady was coming round every hour handing out cups of gorgeous soup every hour. Special place. No-one locks anything, and if you didn't get on with your neighbours, either they'd kill you or the elements would! Epic place. x

Hei I'm originally from Norway 👋🏼 been in the UK nearly 25 years now. If you're travelling there you will absolutely love that time of year (May/ June). Like others have mentioned, 17 May is epic. Remember if you're in the North in June you will probably see the midnight sun! My family is from Hallingdal so I'm biased, but there are some incredible fjords there like Gudvangen. Flåm is close by, you can get the Flåmsbanen train from Flåm to Bergen which is said to be the most spectacular train journey in the world. From Bergen get the Hurtigruten ferry along the fjords northwards to chase the midnight sun. Lots of amazing towns worth a visit on that coastal path like Ålesund, Trondheim, Tromsø. Enjoy!

Brings back memories of our 6 week visit to Orkney back in 2013. Our oldest lived there for just under 2 years. During our visit, half the time we stayed indoors due to the extreme weather. Skara Brae was amazing and we experienced the same weather as you. We were pleasantly surprised with the local cuisine in Kirkwall. It was excellent. Fantastic part of the world. Being Canadian, we were surprised to see so many 🇨🇦 flags when out and about in the countryside around Kirkwall.

Isn’t it wonderful, we have been three times now, there is so much to see, I’m sure you’ll want to return, it’s just Orkney. The people, the wildlife, the coastline, the food, the wind, the history in abundance from thousands of years. We have visited now quite a few island within the Orkney’s. Glad you enjoyed yourselves, if you go back try the Kirkwall apartments, one they are modern and clean and just off the high st in Kirkwall, and of course you can get to all the islands from Kirkwall Harbour. Loved this quick trip to Scotland! The Shetland Pony was a cutie but I am biased because I used to have one...sort of a rescue one when I was a kid going into my teens. Your trip brings back a lot of memories for me! The first time I saw Skara Brae was with a friend's uncle - a private tour for us, back before there were fences and visitor centres and replicas; we had to stand 45° or we'd have joined the ancients in their underground homes...! And my husband and I have Shiela Fleet Runic wedding rings - she's got amazing jewellery! There are a lot of brilliant artisans in the islands.
