The musicianship of ABBA is astounding. So many ingredients and layers to what appears a simple song. I guess ABBA understood the limited ability of the listener to hear a lot, but also understood that it takes a lot to achieve authentic simplicity.
@johnmcgahern39462 жыл бұрын
Agreed. The other problem is no matter how great the final mix of a record, individual instruments get naturally diffused and somewhat lost in the mix. Unfortunate, but that's life as the human ear is only capable listening to so many simultaneous sounds. That's why we love to hear isolated instruments, they just pop right out at us.
@freddykabulaschnitza24752 жыл бұрын
Once you become a semi-serious musician, you start to listen to music more analytically and you begin hearing all the instruments ans voices, their interactions and all the subtleties, you begin to appreciate good music from an emotional and technical level. That's been my experience.
@thebarf92352 жыл бұрын
@@freddykabulaschnitza2475 Same with me. Back in the day, I cut my teeth learning guitar and bass by listening to records. Backing up the needle over and over again. Doing that focused my listening skills tremendously.

This bass line has always made me smile because while it’s definitely fretless, it doesn’t shout that fact out loud. It serves the song so well. Paul Webb of Talk Talk was another bassist who walked that fine line so well. This is a beautiful rendition too.

Usually bass line doesn't carry a melody, rather rytms and support. This time is very different because all bass fuctions + melody are fused together making it a separate composition of its own.

I know what you make look easy is actually grabbing the soul of a groove, then giving it a voice of living fidelity. I get this as a request often for our wedding covers.
