The lyrics for this song were written by her ex-husband Bjorn (plaing the guitar beside her) he wrote it from his viewpoint after their recent split, but he thought it rang true when she sung it. When asked how it felt for her to sing those lyrics she said "it was like playing a part, but I couldn't let my feelings take over, it was quite a while afterwords that I realised we had made a small masterpiece "

Fantastic song, the most beautiful ever !! Agnetha fantastic, beautiful when she smiles, even more so when she is sad (but I wish she had never been sad!) The phrase: " But tell me does she kiss like i used to kiss you " is the most powerful that has ever been written in a song! Goose bumps. I really like Agnetha at the end when she says: "But you see": there you can see that she has the strength to get up and go on and she made it!

Listen closely to the line "I played all my cards". (emphasis on word "cards". It's a subtle thing but the break in her voice and the way it is more spoken than sung conveys so much emotion and shows just what a talented vocalist Agnetha was/is.
@annaf3915 Жыл бұрын
What I don't get is, if he wrote the song for Agnetha, does he consider himself the winner? Of the break up? If so, that's really messed up.... I always loved this song but for me it was always clearly about winning or losing. A job opening, an exam, a referall. To someone more apt for this. When two people decide to go separate ways, why would there be a winner and loser unless those two are incredibly immature....

This is exactly the Abba Album with which I started to admit to like them. Had it as a Christmas present from my parents. Before, I was with all the other boys- Abba was a "No Go". Yes, you are right. This video was recorded by a German TV crew in Stockholm, Sweden, and broadcast live to a German TV show. ABBA stands for Agnetha Faltskog Bjorn Ulvaeus Benny Andersson and Annifrid Frid Lyngstad. Their manager stig anderson took the initials of their names and made ABBA. Agnetha and Bjorn( The girl with the blond and the guy playing the guitar in the video) were married in 1971 their marriage was on rocky grounds at the height of ABBA's success in 1978. they separated in december 1978 and their divorce was filed in 1980 and when their divorce was filed the title the winner takes it all came to bjorn ulvaeus's mind. the song is about the pain of that divorce. Annifrid Lyngstad and Benny Andersson (The girl with the red hair and the guy playing the piano in the video)were engaged in 1971 but did not marry until the height of ABBA's success in october 1978. 2 years after the marriage it went on rocky grounds for some reason. On November 26 1980 they separated and in late 1981 their divorce was filed. ABBA wrote the song When all is said and done for that divorce. Shortly after the filing of the 2 divorces in the group the song one of us was written and sung entailing the end of a love story and the pain of the 2 divorces in the group

OK so you state the obvious that the piano starts the song in a tv show. It was a tv appearance, not a video, about a sing which involved the divorce of both couples. How they had the strength to sing this whilst going through it themselves is amazing. a simple google search of this would have revealed this to you.

🧡 ABBA ! Dereck, you look so different a year ago. ABBA had a great way of telling a story through song. The words are simple and clear, with meaning. And the music score. Every song stood out on its own merits. Bravo for you to react to this group from so long ago. And your list is extensive. I've got some listening to do. Thanks, my friend, for the memories.

Music videos weren't really a thing until MTV came around in the early 80s. Before that, most "music videos" were simply TV or live performances synced up to the single track. So it can be hard to tell if a video is live or not if it's a song prior to 1980.

We’re watching a live breakup story with the two people in the video that it happened to. I don’t even know how they even had the courage to perform it. And they’re are filming it like it’s live. Up until now she has always looked so young, happy and innocent. But not here. There are lines of maturity and sadness in her eyes. This is reality. Even tho it’s saying the winner takes it all that’s not how it happened or happens. The winner lost too. It’s just how Bjorn felt and even Greta felt too. It’s always the other person who wins. Marriage was on the decline by the the time this was written with50% ending in divorce.a lot of people related to this song. It also happened to Gwen Stephanie of No Doubt and the other band member in their song don’t speak. They were in their late teens.
