Hello again, dear friend Thank you for making "Ring Ring", when ABBA was not called that I remember that when I was young (now I am almost 65 years old) there was no cell phone or internet, and not everyone had a telephone; and when I left my parents protested because I hung up the phone to talk to my girlfriend, or was waiting for her call, and I didn't want them to use it and occupy it what times those hahaha "Ring ring" was composed to go to Eurovision 1973 but was third in the Swedish preselection:(Melodiefestivalen) there they went with Agnetha with a very advanced first pregnancy (at eight months, you can see in some photos) "Ring Ring" is the third single (and first album) from the future quartet ABBA (in these times they called themselves as 'Bjorn and Benny; Agnetha and Frida') "Ring Ring" is the only ABBA song in english that have another more songwriters It's because their manager Stig Anderson called to Neil Sedaka for an english lyrics , and he did it with Pill Cody surely because of Agnetha's pregnancy and her postpartum, the future ABBA did not have many chances to promote "Ring Ring" That is why there is even a curious one: a TV presentation from 1973 performing "Ring Ring" without the presence of Agnetha, with Inger (a friend of Frida) in her place after Agnetha's postpartum the future ABBA makes a presentation in Denmark and there they film two videos: "Ring Ring" and "Love isn't easy" this is the first Ring Ring video with all four ABBA members together kzbin.info/www/bejne/jHSwioNqZbagkNk This official video is from 1974 After the victory in Eurovision with "Waterloo", ABBA begins with their official videos, and in two days they filmed both: "Waterloo" and "Ring Ring" the costumes they wear are superheroes, to be different from those of Waterloo (You can see these costumes on TV performances of "Honey honey") ABBA remixed the original recording from 1973, when they first applied the 'wall of sound' technique ABBA decided to release "Ring Ring" again in the UK and other countries in 1974, as the follow-up single after "Waterloo", but it barely reached number 32 in the UK. For me it is a very good song (8pts) it had its success a little beyond Sweden in 1973 and other European countries It's glam rock style, like the next, the glorious and iconic banger masterpiece "Waterloo" and last date "Ring Ring" was first ABBA song recorded in spanish language (also other languages), but not released in their time (that's why "Chiquitita" is first ABBA song released in spanish language) See you next time God bless you! my best regards to you from Buenos Aires Argentina 🇦🇷 South America P.S.: congratulations for your new mark of subscribers! Go to 10.000 and do a party!

Thank you for listening to all the abba songs. I am so chuffed you like even the most unusual ones. Very refreshing. There are some beauties that no one ever hear. I love every single song they ever did. Just an abba nut really. Grew up in Australia when they where huge and been hooked ever since. I love your reactions and you make me cry sometimes when I realise you actually get it! The girls vocals will never be matched and even Bjorn is pretty good. Feeling pretty proud right now! Look forward to your next reaction ❤️❤️❤️❤️

Thank you very much for another interesting ABBA video reaction. This is a remixed version, recorded a couple of years later after having completed Ring RIng album (the saxiphone was added and the entire track was re-recorded). As for the style in this video - well, it was a period, when their outfits were influenced by some glam rockers, at least, they took the inspiration for that. Later they gave it up and changed their style again, though they always did it throughout their entire career.

In my opinion, Ring Ring is their first song where you can hear the ABBA-sound. The other songs on that album sounds like strange musical experiments for me. But my ABBA starts with RING RING

ABBAMAN... Great idea to react to hit videos you have never seen you can imagine hardcore Abba fans like me who fell in love with this group for everything you mentioned clothes hairstyle instruments the joy on their fresh faces. I do like this song since it's one of their earliest and back then they did not speak English very well the English lyrics where co-written with Neil sedaka who I was a big fan of anyways. Back then Abba was sort of a Glam Rock group but it was music to my ears to hear this kind of music when I was a teenager. I also noticed saxophone in this song which they did use throughout their career and even on don't shut me down it harkens back to the beginning that new song in particular uses a little of this and a little of that from different songs over the years that's why I think it appealed so much to everybody who was a fan which made me cry when I first heard DSMD.. looks like you are approaching 9,000 subs and a new live stream maybe this weekend I hope so

Thanks for doing this ABBA song, coz as you say it's a big milestone in their history .. It has that famously great ABBA production and sound to it .. Agnetha looks just adorable .. Breathtakingly beautiful ! .. And nice pick-up on Bjorn's make-up .. He did go a tad overboard, didn't he ! 😂

Great to see your Abba reaction again. I'm happy you've changed your mind and decided to react to all their songs 👋👋👋 Of course, there will be a lot of songs you've heard (especially their greatest hits), but you probably haven't seen the videos or heard them in a while. I like Ring Ring a lot, but my favorite songs are those that never ended up in the charts. I like this video, because you have the opportunity to see their faces for more than a split second and there is no silly stuff flashing around. The outfits were crazy, but also fun to look at. But this version is not the one for the album but for this video! The one on the album was re-recorded and this is where Michael B. Tretow first used it where they slightly increased the tempo to create a more powerful and dimensional sound! The album version made the song more magnificent! ("On 10 January 1973, the song was recorded at the Metronome Studio in Stockholm. Studio engineer Michael B. Tretow, who later collaborated with Andersson and Ulvaeus on many singles and albums, had read a book about record producer Phil Spector (Richard Williams' book Out of His Head: The Sound of Phil Spector), famed for his "Wall of Sound" treatment to the songs that he produced. While Spector used several musicians playing the same instruments in the same recording studio at the same time, such a technique would be far too expensive for the recording of "Ring Ring". Tretow's solution was to simply record the song's backing track twice in order to achieve an orchestral sound. Changing the speed of the tape between the overdubs, making the instruments marginally out of tune, increased the effect.")

1973: Glam rock was the in-thing, so any, (as they were then), up-and-coming group tried their best to fit into the trend purely to get noticed. Hence, the outfits they're wearing. This song missed out on being their big international break, as, much like in 1974, it was their contribution to the Eurovision Song Contest. However, this one didn't make it to become the Swedish representation in '73. How things may have been different if it had managed it! There's every possibility this would have been their, 'break through', single rather than, 'Waterloo', a year later. Who knows?

A very good analysis, David! I really enjoy this song, but in its standard version (not this one), as much as Waterloo. They wore these weird costumes for tax reasons. If they couldn't wear them in their normal life, that fact deducted. Björn looks really awful! Not the case of Benny, he looks so great, as the girls do. Frida is very fun although it's true here looks very serious. They enjoyed performing together, good times! By the way, are you babysitting? Just kidding.... Thank you and take care this busy week!
