THANKYOU BB,how you bring the ABBA story to life and give it depth and meaning .You present the evolution of ABBA to a reality that is locked deep in our minds and hearts ,It was never easy for them right from the beginning, negative criticism, public scorn by different sectors of society, people unwilling to embrace new concepts and music ,people DENYING a phenomenon before their very eyes .Yes, four different individuals coming together in love to align four different styles of music to form a group that will generate so much diversity, concepts,experimentation and pure and perfect music and song that will captivate and hypnotise the world ,a world where all cultures,people and nations can come together united in common love and peace and be as one.And they did this with so much humility and dedication to ignore the negativity and adverse conditions that tried to destroy their talent and inspiration and go on to give us their gift of music and song, and of course themselves.

I was very young then, but already a big fan of vocal pop. Watched the ESC for the 1st time in 72, when my favourite band, The New Seekers came 2nd. And I was so blown away by ABBA in 74, also had a little crush on Benny (such a cute teddy bear). So I went to the concert in Bremen in november, accompanied by my godfather, because I wasn't allowed to go alone. It was really a blast, so much energy, the vocals were excellent, and I remember Benny's solo "Intermezzo". I remember Frida's warm voice, and her smile was so charming. And So Long, which was released a few days before the concert. What a great rock performance they gave. Like The New Seekers they had a wide variety of songs in their repertoire, which I really enjoyed that night & forever. You could feel how much they loved to perform. Saw them again in Bremen on their last tour, which took place in a much bigger venue, delivering a perfect night of great music. But the intimacy & raw energy in 74 was something different. A night to remember, and the audience loved every minute of it

Rest assured you are now part of an expanding group of very talented fans that do their own channels with features or chats. Your production standards are of the utmost ultra high standard. Maybe one day they could be updated with an endorsement to be able to use their music, rather than have to always be fearful of the algorithms that sometimes act in a very penalising way. Well done!

Hej Hej! Thank you again Bobby's Brother for presenting us with another wonderful piece of ABBA history. Your second episode of ABBA Concert Tours is a delight, and sheds so much light and interesting facts on this legendary and almost mythical period of ABBA's career. The fact that not much live footage exists of their actual concerts from the 1974 - 75 tour has always made this period of ABBA a very magical one for me. Your research and information on these dates of their tour is incredible... the story of the school boy secretly observing ABBA in rehearsals at his father's school was a highlight....and interesting to hear how Frida took vocals on the second verse of S.O.S. ....the costume changes revealing a more sexy topless look for Benny & Björn. The reviews prove this was something more than just a regular concert tour. These shows must have been so exciting to see....and something very special to experience....with an electric feeling in the air that the fuse had been lit for much bigger, better and beautiful music to come from these two musical couples.
@bobbysbrother1372 жыл бұрын
"Legendary and almost mythical", so true. That's certainly why I am drawn to this unique era. I'm glad you singled out the story of the schoolboy. It really gets one closer to it all, with a very unique perspective, so that's why I really wanted it to be included, and I'm happy you like it! Love what you said about the reviews, and I'm sure that even goes for the cynical aspects. It shows that there *was* something special going on!

@@bobbysbrother137 Hej! Tack for your reply to my comments on your second concert tours episode. I'm glad you appreciated my thoughts on this very exciting period in ABBA's history and one I'm pleased to know you enjoy aswell. I live in Birmingham in Great Britain. It was here in Birmingham that ABBA performed their very first concert in the UK in 1977 at the ODEON Cinema. The ODEON was a prime venue for top music acts visiting Birmingham. It is still there today, but now only showing movies. I thought you might like the following extract from the Birmingham Evening Mail website about the ABBA show itself. It may be of interest and help you with your next installment part 3 Europe & Australia 'It wasn’t until 1977 that ABBA, who much preferred the security of the studio to playing live, made it to Great Britain. And the first of five dates was a gig on February 10 at the Birmingham Odeon on New Street. The New Street venue was capable of seating 2,500 fans, and there were high hopes that the show would sell out. In the event, the box office fielded no fewer than 50,000 requests for tickets. It was the hottest ticket of the year. Touring on the back of their Greatest Hits and Arrival albums, ABBA were big news - but Birmingham brought new challenges. Extra security had to be hired such was the fever-pitch of the fans. The group hired four burly minders to shield them from any undue attention. British fans, they believed, were more excitable than any others. On the night, the Odeon had a full contingent of stewards, and there was a police presence outside. “It is necessary,” said aide Thomas Johansson. “The audience is more forward in Britain - they want to get close to their idols and touch them.” Dale Michelsohn, who worked as a stage technician, and who runs the Birmingham Odeon Memorial group on Facebook, recalls: “It was a gem of a show, and I remember it well. There was a film crew there all day filming us setting up. We had to rig a quadrophonic PA system at the back of the stalls, although it was only used for the opening of the show. Fans heard a helicopter sound passing overhead to introduce the band’s ‘Arrival’. As soon as the effect was over, we had to drag the PA through the doors at the back and onto the rear car park, de-rig it and wheel it around backstage. The backstage passes were round metal pin badges, with each evening or venue’s badge a different colour. Security was tight not just because of the interest from the fans but because of fears of terrorist action by the IRA. Don’t forget that in November 1974 the IRA had bombed Birmingham, killing 21 people and injuring 187 others". “The audience had to pass strict safety checks just to get in, and the stewards were on alert. But by the end of the gig some of the fans were able to get up onstage during Dancing Queen, waving ABBA flags.” A film crew caught the band as they arrived in the Odeon foyer, carrying out an impromptu interview. And after the triumphant show, the Swedish stars finally let their emotions show, and the tears flowed. “It was especially scary to be playing in front of a British audience,” admitted Agnetha. “We were terribly nervous about playing that first night in Birmingham. After all, it’s classic ground in terms of pop music.” ABBA Fan Ian Kemp recalls: “I saw ABBA in concert on February 10. It was their first concert in England and my ticket cost £2.” ' Regards Rob

There are so many fascinating facts about this tour that I didn't know about before, thank you so much for those! Of course, my favorite is the principal's son, getting to watch ABBA for free every single day after school for two weeks on end...! Gosh, he was one lucky boy, that probably gave him lifelong memories! Also, I had listened to little snippets of the bootleg recordings here on KZbin before, but hearing Frida belt out "Rock'n Roll Band" in the snippet you picked, along with the photographs, really made my heart race. What energy! And what an absolute shame that we didn't get a documentary on those first tours, as I think the photographs that we do have are so fascinating and really give us a glimpse into the atmosphere that must have been there - oh, how I wish I was around back then, and what an exciting thought that maybe some recordings of those concerts could be in the vaults...! This makes me all the more excited to see "Voyage" in London! That quote from January '75 actually made me tear up a little, because it beautifully describes what music, and especially ABBA, have always meant to me, and what I also expect "Voyage" to be: "I really feel alive [...] It gives me energy!"

Hey Hey Bobby, as always you break down a time frame and give it new life. Considering ABBAs short length of time together and the fact that they didn’t tour as much as other groups begs the question “How did they manage to come back” ? Most groups fade away into history.One hit wonders. ABBA brings with them so much musical diversity and somehow incorporates it to make it extraordinary. Pop, rock,classical,folk,country, and yet it’s none of them singularly or together. It’s like bits and pieces put together and it works , it gives them their own unique style. The photos were a treat, I’d not seen many of them. And any concert I’ve been to the music is always loud to the point you can’t hear the words sung.But the atmosphere is always electrifying. The ABBAtars are truly amazing. Right down to freckles and facial hair. We live in an age of technical magic. You can’t tell the difference . This is so monumental, so extraordinary, it’s a shame that there no photography allowed in the arena. I’m on the edge of my seat just wanting to see how the ABBAtars preform. Ah well, hopefully somehow we’ll get to see them. Thank you again for all your hard work in putting this all together. You should make a dvd of it all, it’s legendary history. I buy it. See you next time 🇺🇸

Hej Fritzie! That was a nice breakdown of ABBA and their special genre, and what you say about their short length of time together + their minimum touring schedules really gets me thinking, too! It's incomprehensible, as Björn says, remarkable really, and it's not only *that* they managed to come back, but that they are back and bigger than ever. Ha! One question: where did you read that photography was not allowed in the ABBA Arena? On the FAQ on the Voyage website, they ask: "Can I take photos or film the performance?", and the answer - to my surprise - is this: "Yes, for personal use only. However, please be mindful of the people around you - we want everyone to be able to enjoy themselves." So no worries!!

Thank you for your very comprehensive research, it's really impressive! You asked for information about early ABBA documentation. Maybe the following information can be of some help. Swedish Televison (SVT) has produced two wonderful program series about popular music, "Hitlåtens historia" (The story of the hit song), and "Det Svenska popundret" (The Swedish pop wonder). Because of the usual copyright issues, some programs can only be viewed in Sweden, and they are subject to a time limit for distribution, due to the nature of their content. Nevertheless, here are the main SVT people behind those productions: Producer and narrator's voice: Magnus Broni, project director: Fredrik Norberg, publisher: Micael Lekberg. My impression is that Magnus Broni is the one to contact for information about ABBA. He seems to sit on a mountain of knowledge about Swedish pop.

Very interesting indeed BB. Abba were often derided in popular culture and the media and even recently I saw coverage in the UK media suggesting that Abba Voyage was having difficulty in selling tickets. I like your comment about Abba being 'grounded' and being fuss-free. This is one thing that sets them apart from other acts, and perhaps their slight aloofness and unwillingness to play to the media's tune caused some resentment. Talking of tunes, Hej Hej Helen has long been one of my Abba favourites. I've Been Waiting For You is a tremendous song too, and hard to believe that it was just issued as a B side. Super duper, BB. Very nicely done.

Ciao Bobby's, come puoi spiegarmi che gli Abba non sono mai venuti in Italia in concerto? Forse se facevano un'apparizione attiravano molti piu' fan italiani...! Siamo veramente pochi in Italia .. Che dispiacere..!!! Ciao grazie.

I know from what i've read over the past decades that Abba's relationship with SVT was rather "chilly" and "uncomfortable".Also even at the time of the 1976 ABBAdabbadoo Special, things weren't in such a "warming" co-existence.Cause at the time,ABBA represented all over the world what Sweden really wasn't.Totally the opposite to their country's "left wing"culture. But some years later on, in 1979/80 by the time of the ABBA IN CONCERT Special, things had settled down and were more easy going.Generally Swedish press was very "stingy" and hostile to Abba in the '70s.Fans were buying foreign papers to learn about Abba.Even some of their singles weren't even released in their own country.Demand though for Abba news were so high worlwide that the band was kinda "urged" to release the exclusive ABBAmagazine to feed us fans who couldn't get enough of them.

Another question which l forget to ask you as a absolute ABBA insider: l am very interested in the ABBA rere ore even bootlegg CDs.. this can be live bootleggs from the concerts in every ABBA Periode or even some ultra rare maxi CDs, extended versions etc. Do you have any contracts to get at those "old", very rare CDs? I am really interested and l am willing to pay a fair price. Thank you very much! Take care

Are you sure the drummer from Beatmakers wasn't Roger Palm? He was in the Beatmakers and played on many ABBA recordings.

OK!What can i say?!You nailed it!Another pearl for this ABBA video library.In this tour i admit FRIDA was the ROCK FIRE of the show!And Bjorn on his topless silvery blue-ish glamrock outfit!Seems Harry Styles ripped his idea for doing similar thing in Red, for the video to his newer Scandi scented smash "As it Was". lol!(Ok i'm just kidding on this).I had listened to that Eskiltuna bootleg.And tell you what.Some songs could be sang lead equally good by both A+F.But some were tailor made specificly for A or F respectively.E.g.KNMKY is a glorious total FRIDA trademark song.No other could have done this better.Same goes for SOS and Agnetha.Frida's voice-judging from that live performance on her SOS contribution- well it doesn't click that good, same way it works with the "gloomy sun" that Agnetha's voice deliver with it.As for this video all i can i say?Tutorial Abbaheaven!My jam!Thank you.

Hey Alex,since you've mentioned it,last but not least.Just watched the video to Shania Twain/Styles live duet from Coachella.If you freeze the picture of Bjorn in 7:00,H.Styles wears almost same glam uniform ,same colors as if it's a copy which of course it's a coinsidence.Fashion repeats in a way.

@@christianoazzuro6711 Yeah,i just checked that out CHRIS.Platform boots are missing though lol!"fashion repeats" as you've said but also fades.Hope Abba's legacy never fade out as long as music exists.Hugs.

Do you happen to know B'sB if they had any backing vocalists accompanying them in that early tour?As was in '77/'79?
@gogobre88032 жыл бұрын
No female backing singers. Boris Lindqvist and Caj Högberg from The Beatmakers accompanied them vocally.

Bobby, can you please explain ABBA and the USA, what was the extent of their success there ? I remember them going there in 1978 to the Olivia Newton John show. I was on holiday in the USA that year aged 9. Why were they not mega in the USA ? Like the were everywhere else. Olivia Newton John relocated her career there after she lost to ABBA in the Eurovision, Helen Reddy advised her she had to be available in the USA to have success there. Was ABBA just not available in the USA long enough to gain mega success. thank you.

Hey The End hi there mate.Well That's a long story and a real big topic to discuss.A bittersweet one... But with your last sentence you almost gave a great part of the answer to your own question!Btw OLIVIA was/is, the great female soloist of the '70s that almost every Abba fan could also relate to.Girl next door with a unique vocal identity and very good friend of Abba especially with Frida!
