My mom had cancer arround 2012-2014 and she was a happy person, dynamic. But when she got sick in her face I only saw sadness and depression, so when I heard the parts that says "You'll be dancing once again and the pain will ends" I imagine here dancing, singing, laughing again not in this live, in heaven, she is now with our God without grievings, just like I imagine her when I saw in her sickness. It may be that I never had hope that she would overcome cancer, but I always had the hope that she would be happy as I know she is now, not earthly but her soul is.

Their English was really good, but the odd time I'd miss a line because of their accents. For the longest time I didn't understand the bit about "you've broken a feather" -- and I've only recently realized what they were singing in the line about "your love's a blown-out candle". On your life's journey, enjoy the ride. Change what you can and except what you cant. Don't look back with regret, a waste of time. At the time it was you making decisions with the information and resources you had. Good or bad. Look to the future and explore.... Looking back in a few years you will then say " I have done what I could with those resources I had. So relax, explore this time and space. There is a vast world out there. And stop picking on yourself...there will always be someone higher or better, but remember you alone can make yourself feel better.

years ago when i told the doctor i was depressed, my mom yelled at me afterwards (i guess maybe it caught her off guard, dunno how tho lol). hours later, she came into my room while i was sleeping, hugged me and told me she wanted me to listen to a song. so she lays down and makes me lay with her and she hugged me and plays this song while she cries. we didn’t talk really, we just listened while she hugged me and rubbed my head like she did when i was a little girl. i don’t really remember what happened afterwards, i just remember her leaving the room. it’s been years and we haven’t talked about my mental health since, and she’s become more intense in her religion so it’s been really suffocating. but in my sad times i come back to this and remember that moment. it’s like- not much happened but a lot did at the same time and while it didn’t change anything, the song just reminds me of those couple minutes and that feeling i had while i listened to the lyrics. how i wanted to sob, but didn’t, how i was so angry but so sad for my mom who went through so much trauma, how we both went through so much together and how she just didn’t know how to help or how to talk to me but tried to make me feel better if just for a couple minutes. on our worst days i can’t relate to her at all and i have to just think of this moment of when she tried her best to show me she could

My mother would sing this to me when I was upset. And in turn, I would sing this to my daughter when she was little and she got upset. This is the most beautiful song ever written, and I often cry when I listen to this song and think of my daughter when she's sad. Such a wonderful and beautiful song. Masterfully written, full of heart, and filled with both heartache and hope.

I've always believed that ABBA, The Beatles, The Bee Gees, and other musicians who have created brilliant popular music are in the same catagory as Mozart, Beethoven, Bach etc...Good music will cross all age and generational boundaries. Music is eternal!
@thesho213 жыл бұрын
No, no they’re not. While writing catchy pop music is admittedly difficult it’s no where near the same level of Beethoven or Bach (Stravinsky, Mahler, Mendelssohn, Haydn, Rachmaninov, etc…). From an entertainment standpoint, sure. But on a technical level, hell no!
@karaky58673 жыл бұрын
@@thesho21 i dont get how. The point of music is to entertain people and make them feel feelings, and personally i belive people such as the beatles and abba succeeds more with that than beethoven or bach, so while you should definitely respect those musicians and try to understand what made them so popular, I personally believe that these pop groups, even though their music isn’t on the same level of technique, they make “better” songs as they probably make the general public more entertained. I don’t believe the technique itself when making songs matter that much, as the general public probably don’t even understand the technique behind some of Beethoven’s and Bach’s masterpieces. Keep in mind that this is my opinion!
@thesho213 жыл бұрын
@@karaky5867 - I mean you said it yourself, it's your opinion. You prefer ABBA and The Beatles to Bach and Beethoven. Great! However, what's not opinion is the skill (or musical talent) required to compose (and perform) Beethoven's 7th symphony or Bach's Art of Fugue v The Beatles Elenore Rigby or ABBA's Chiquitita. Also, just because something is popular, doesn't mean it's objectively better than something that is unpopular. Subjectively? Sure. I fully understand that Dancing Queen is easier to listen to than Stravinsky's Rite of Spring. But from a purely objective musical stand point it's no where near on the same level.
@jaspervanlier91073 жыл бұрын
@@thesho21 I 100% agree with you, writing a classical piece requires so much more talent and effort than just a catchy song. Maybe I am biased because i love classical music but this is just my opinion
@RosePetal173 жыл бұрын
@@thesho21 I was not referring to level of technical ability, which in my opinion, doesn't even matter, though I am sure Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus were classically trained. This music breaks down every possible boundary: age, gender, intellect. I read a comment from a 13 year old who loves ABBA, and yet they were at the height of their popularity in the early/mid 1970s! I also must add that classical giants composed brilliant music, but popular music artists also write lyrics, which to me, is modern poetry. George Martin, who studied piano at "The Guildhall of Music and Drama," went on to arrange music for the Beatles, adding incredible texture (that stunning string section) to songs like "Elenor Rigby." Going back to the music of ABBA, they are right up there (for me anyway,) with Mozart or Beethoven. :D

Lyrics: Chiquitita tell me what's wrong You're enchained by your own sorrow In your eyes there is no hope for tomorrow How I hate to see you like this There is no way you can deny it I can see that you're oh so sad, so quiet Chiquitita, tell me the truth I'm a shoulder you can cry on Your best friend, I'm the one you must rely on You were always sure of yourself Now I see you've broken a feather I hope we can patch it up together Chiquitita, you and I know How the heartaches come and they go and the scars they're leaving You'll be dancing once again and the pain will end You will have no time for grieving Chiquitita, you and I cry But the sun is still in the sky and shining above you Let me hear you sing once more like you did before Sing a new song, Chiquitita Try once more like you did before Sing a new song, Chiquitita So the walls came tumbling down And your love's a blown out candle All is gone and it seems too hard to handle Chiquitita, tell me the truth There is no way you can deny it I see that you're oh so sad, so quiet Chiquitita, you and I know How the heartaches come and they go and the scars they're leaving You'll be dancing once again and the pain will end You will have no time for grieving Chiquitita, you and I cry But the sun is still in the sky and shining above you Let me hear you sing once more like you did before Sing a new song, Chiquitita Try once more like you did before Sing a new song, Chiquitita Try once more like you did before Sing a new song, Chiquitita
