I enjoy that Abbath is doing what he wants. This album is not a "let me make a better northern chaos gods than Immortal". That's what I like the most about it. We hear new avenues from him and that's a breath of fresh air.

That seems to be why he left the band in the first place. They wanted to go the Northern Chaos Gods direction, he wanted to sound more like this. When you listen to Immortal, it was always like a combination of the two. And now that they both got to make their music exactly the way they wanted, they are both absolutely killing it!

Made me notice I never was a big fan of the other side. Northern Chaos Gods has been boring to me to this day, dunno what everybody sees or hears listening to it. Maybe it's because I really did not start digging Immortal before the release of Sons.. and from this day on I adore everything that sounds like it.

@@nervkindlen378 Me neither... but i think At the Heart of Winter was the first album that wasn't just all about blast beats and insane riffs... it brought them grooviness and more melody focused songs. It's probably still my favourite album of them and i loved those albums that came after that! Northern Chaos Gods is more of that old school Immortal that never got my attention, tbh. Some nice songs here and there in that old school era but that's it.
