Abbey Road Orchestra: High Percussion - Worth it??

Spitfire Audio's latest library in their flagship Abbey Road Orchestra line is out, and I was able to get my hands on it. Is it worth the price, or should you skip this one?

This was very insightful ... thank you for sharing. I'm in need of a new percussion library. I currently almost exclusively use CinePerc but I can't get as tight a sound that I want. Maybe that has more-so to do with my lack of mixing capabilities lol!

Thanks for your really informative intros to the ARO percussion libraries (and for teaching me how to say “guiro” lol). I agree with your conclusion about who needs them and who doesn’t, and I don’t (yet). The one thing that intrigues me, however, is the flexibility of the room sound control. I have BBC, Joby Burgess and CinePerc, and I don’t think any of them can get as intimate and detailed as ARO can, to be used, for example, in an contemporary ensemble mockup. Thoughts?

My favorite thing about BBC is those mic positions, and I like the mics in Abbey Road even more. I can definitely see Abbey Road in a percussion ensemble setting, I’m not certain the other libraries are the best for that. But, the best library is the one you have, so until you find yourself REALLY needing specifically these sounds, I think you’re good with what you got!

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this library. Would love to get my hands on many of these sounds, yet, not all. What midi controller are you using to trigger the sounds (is it just a K/B)? Any idea where to find good MIDI files to trigger these sounds (congas, bongos, timbales, etc..) for latin music? Thank you!

Glad you like the video. I’m just using a plain old electric piano, which can plug-in via USB to my computer. I’m not sure where you can midi files for this specific library for Latin music, but maybe I’ll make some… 🤔

I can't understand how there is no timpani in high or low percussion... The should update that asap

I assume that that is coming in a Tuned Percussion library; every percussion library so far is untuned percussion. Hope it comes soon!

@@ErnestoComposer thanks for answering. Soundonsound review suggested it maybe would come up with an update... It's a bit weird they didn't include it. I'm going to buy metal percussion now on the summer sales but I hoped that would be all to complete the collection...

@@buelstv1040 Yeah, I don’t expect it to be in Low Percussion. Maybe it’s own ARO Timpani library that’s expansive, or in a Tuned Percussion library
