Hi Abbey, I'm three months late to this video, but I still very much enjoyed it. I just bought Hobonichi Techo in the hopes of also reclaiming myself from not finishing the Midori journal I had in 2023. I'm also pressured by its size and the need to fill up every space. Just tried it cause my journal before was the travel journal from Starbucks, and I was able to fill it up because of its size. But I learned that it's okay to start again. Self-compassion with discipline is what I aim my 2025 would look like. I'll also use your rule for yourself of not going over three days without writing. That's a good rule for creatives and writers to practice and commit to their craft. Really great video, Abbey. Thank you for this.

Thank you for such inspiring video. I just got my first Hobonichi. I bought the A5, and now that I look at your A6 and see how cute it is, I feel like I made a mistake and should have started with a smaller one. You’re right-when using stickers, washi, and stamps, there isn’t much space left to write, which is perfect for me since I have no idea what to write. Also, I absolutely LOVE your idea with the tear-away calendar. I’m now looking for tear-away calendars! :)

@AbbeySy3 ай бұрын
The easiest and simplest advice I can give on staying consistent is to not force yourself, and start small. A sentence a day will eventually become a short paragraph, and eventually, a page. You can choose how to develop this habit and find ways to incorporate it into your routine without it feeling like a big chore you have to tackle! I always say the reason why I keep a journal is really so I can remember how I felt or what I did at a specific point in time. I don't know why exactly I feel propelled to document, but that why is strong enough for me to want to constantly update my journal and get some thoughts across. Hope this helps :)

I started journaling when I learned it helps process emotions and to speak your mind and I used to use A5 notebooks until I ran out of things to say and got busy at my job. I loved the amount of space I have to put stickers, washi tapes and other decor that i had but it didn't last long. After watching one of your videos (I think about the A6 Midori) I tried using it and loved it, I learned a lot from you about effectively writing without forcing yourself to. A6 is a small notebook that doesn't feel like a pressure to fill in but also gives me enough space for my thoughts, I filled it up after 6 months and tried to go back to an A5 hoping it could last a year unlike an A6 but I totally forgot about it now lol. I got into a weeks notebook from Muji for work schedule and a bit of space for thoughts but i'm thinking of getting into a techo now and a hobonichi weeks. Your videos has been a lot of help for research what would work and might not work for me. Thank you!!! and wishing you all the best 🇵🇭❤

I also use less ephemera these days…save it for my junk journals. I do better writing in the morning so I start with a daily affirmation or inspiring quote Ali g with setting my intentions for the day. Then I end the day with what I’m thankful for and a short description of anything special about that day. I was adding some photos but it really chunks out my book 😆

How do you find things to write about? I feel like my life is sooooo empty. I'm 32 by the way, currently looking for a job .
@Gggtoolfan3 ай бұрын
I do one line at time. Just noting little things i do every day. I use multi colored pens to make each line pop. It doesn’t have to be over the top entries. Just every day stuff; made a tasty tea, exercised, talked to so and so, printed inserts etc. you matter and your everyday habits, values and opinions are deserving of being remembered ❤
@captaineleven3 ай бұрын
something i've tried to combat this is actually ask questions "out loud" on the page. whether they're reflective questions or just questions about something i'd want to know (about anything! it doesn't have to be deep). i think you can even do something like "how do i feel about the job market?" or "is this the kind of job that i want to do? What do i even want in a job?" and honestly, if you don't have a response to that, then that's as good a time as any to reflect on why that is and write that down.
@AbbeySy3 ай бұрын
Exactly!
@AbbeySy3 ай бұрын
I think it all boils down to your inner dialogue too. Why do you think your life is empty? It could also stem upon the idea that you think your life is boring/empty, and taking time to notice the mundane things that make it unique and truly your own. You can also choose to write about your day to day experiences like a reporter, or you can reflect on certain experiences that happened on x day or a week's time. Finding things to write about can vary depending on what purpose this all has for you, so the only way you can figure it out is by actually writing them down in a way that speaks to you the most.
