We must keep in mind that wealthy people of Sir Walter Scott's time did not live with their single family unit and a few servants to wait on them in their castles. Their castles estates were like cities and supported a large number of outlying farmers and villages, as well as a couple hundred people who lived with them at their castles, including many paid/otherwise supported servants as well as members of their extended families. Beautiful video.
