It does my heart so much good to see young people like yourselves enjoying this classic routine that I've been rolling over for decades. Abbott and Costello's work seems so seamless because they had a lot of practice perfecting it. They first performed "Who's on First?" in vaudeville, then on radio in 1938, then in the movie The Naughty Nineties in 1945, and finally on their television series from which this clip was taken. It repeatedly tops the list of the greatest comedy acts of all time. It was even inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame at Cooperstown! They just don't come any better.

'Bud Abbot' was the greatest straight man who has ever existed. Being a good straight man is more difficult and challenging. A great one like 'Abbot' was worth his weight in gold. Costello get's a lot of the attention because he's so animated but even he stated Abbot was truly the better comedian.

it's funny that this comedy routine was first done in 1944 (during WWII) and how it is still pertinent to baseball andto comedy routines etc. Almost 80 years ago and a 10 year old baseball enthusiast and their grandparent would both " Get it" today. I love continuity...

Another great comedian to look up is Shelley Berman. He is famous for doing telephone skits in which you only hear his replies. Pure gold. There are two that you absolutely must look up. One is entitled "The Morning After, The Night Before". In this skit he wakes with a hangover and calls the guy whos home he was at for a party because he can't remember what happened. Total and absolute hilarity follows. The other is "The Department Store" in which a guy is trying to call the store across the street to tell them a customers is hanging out a window. Both are pure gold. Just wanted to introduce you to a comedian you probably have never heard of or seen. Definitely worth a look.

There are some differences in the A & C movie "THE NAUGHTY NINETIES" (1945) They also did this on the "COLGATE COMEDY HOUR " The routine is based on prior burlesque sketch. Still, this is my favorite routine by them. I not only have it in my DVD collection I also have a cassette of their radio show. Check out 'I'M A LOAFER ' (I not sure if the title is right basically, Bud gets a job in a bakery )

I've seen the skit many times over roughly 60 years and whichever version it is, it always makes me laugh ---- always. Abbott and Costello performed "Who's on First?" numerous times in their careers, rarely performing it exactly the same way twice. They did the routine for President Franklin Roosevelt several times. An abridged version was featured in the team's 1940 film debut, One Night in the Tropics. The duo reprised the bit in their 1945 film The Naughty Nineties and it is that longer version which is considered their finest recorded rendition.[a] They also performed "Who's on First?" numerous times on radio and television (notably in The Abbott and Costello Show episode "The Actor's Home", widely considered the definitive version). In 1956, a gold record of "Who's on First?" was placed in the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum in Cooperstown, New York. A video (taken from The Naughty Nineties) now plays continuously on screens at the Hall.
