Costello plays the idiot and the fool, but the reality was that he was the brains of the operation and made a lot of the decisions on what jokes to do and how to do them. Abbot followed his lead and played the consummate straight man/con artist against Costello's man-child. Brilliant comedy team!
@wiseguymaybe9 жыл бұрын
+Strange Worlds Unlimited It doesn't really matter who the brains were. That was still slick the way Bud Abbot did that.

+larry potter In vaudeville, the straight man was always the higher paid. Baggy pants comics were a dime a dozen, but a great straight man was hard to come by.
@wiseguymaybe8 жыл бұрын
+TheBigDaddy51 Yeah, I had heard that on Bud and Lou's bio about the straight man always the higher paid. As far as a great straight man, you couldn't get greater than Bud. Although Bud Abbott suffered from epilepsy, you really couldn't top his and Lou Costello's energy. Unlike what Regis Philbin said about Martin and Lewis, who were just plain slapstick silly, to me not funny, Abbott and Costello were the true best comedy duo ever. Their humor was more than slapstick, it was clever.
@stanknight57647 жыл бұрын
that's pretty interesting. Stan Laurel was the brains in Laurel & Hardy as well. Curious how the 'idiot' one was usually the bright one. :).

My favorite version: Get a friend to put $10 in a matchbox, you also put $10 into the same matchbox. Leave the matchbox around and come back to it after a few minutes of talking. Ask them how much is in it. They should say $20. Then you say, ok there's $20 in the box, if you give me $15 I'll give you the box and the $20 inside. They say, DEAL! You profit $5. Can be done w/ more cash if you care.

Abbott and Costello are timeless classics. The last part, when Lou thinks he's pulled one over Bud finally reminds me of the classic Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck skits I'd watch as a kid when they are being hunted by Elmer Fudd and Bugs always manages to convince Elmer it's Duck Season even when its really Rabbit Season. Daffy (to Elmer): Shoot him now, shoot him now! Bugs (to Daffy): He doesn't have to shoot you now. Daffy (to Elmer): I DEMAND that he shoot me now ... BOOM!!!! Daffy (to Bugs): You're despicable
