I love how they characterized Tariq. He was a neglectful boyfriend but he’s still a good person. And he genuinely cares about Janine and the community. It’s such a breath of fresh air cause usually shows would make Tariq a complete asshole to make Gregory look better or to for some drama, but Quinta doesn’t do it here. And his obliviousness makes for some great comedy that wouldn’t be as funny if he was a complete jerk

thats so true! sitcoms are expected to just leave characters one dimensional and whatnot (for comic relief, most of the time) but i love the quinta + writers of this show are able to make these characters complex and show their multitude in a way that keeps the charm of being a sitcom. truly wish this show more seasons 🩶

Honestly when he was first introduced I assumed he was cheating on Janine and was just an emotionally abusive a**hole mooching off this poor woman but obviously that’s not what happened and it was absolutely the best choice to make him a more nuanced character that actually reflects as a real person and not just a 1-dimensional villainous archetype which I absolutely applaud the show for doing he is actually a very funny character.

ong i love how tariq is not a 1 dimmensional character, he doesnt think about his relationships that much but at the same time is an actual person who has feelings and cares and ya know a REAL PERSON not some comedic character who serves one role in the show.

Damn leave it to the parents/guardians and of course Tariq to stand up for their kids, teachers and staffed. They don’t want nor care of some fancy ass school. There main priorities is for their kids to have the best education with the best teachers. I love and enjoy how each parent took their sweet time talking down to that fool. Jeanine, Gregory, Jacob, Barbara, Melissa, Ava and Mr. Johnson enjoy the show, there like hell yeah where’s the popcorn. This is what I call a badass community. Not to mention for all their posturing about being better, statistically they do not do much better academically than public schools. They take money from corporate donors who often have ulterior motives and NOT the kids' best interests at heart. They also often have extremely lax hiring practices so despite all their fancy funding, they are not actually hiring the best possible teachers, just the ones that suit their agenda the best.
