30 was never necessarily old. People that lived past infancy tended to live to be 70 or older for most of human history. It's just that infant mortality was very high so that kind of skews the average.

I've been taking care of my dad for the past year while he's been dealing with cancer and if I had kids there was no way I would be helping him. My parents live 100 mi away and my mom works at my elementary school in the morning and in the afternoon me I have been driving a 100 miles just to take my dad to doctor's appointments. I have to go tomorrow morning and drive 100 mi just to take him to a doctor's appointment down the street. There is no way I would have the time or the money to do this if I had kids also.

It has nothing to do with being a girl boss but survival. These people are wealthy and dont have much to worry about. This isnt the way most americans can live. If I move my retired parents will lose the house due to ever rising bills. Plus have a younger brother who cant work due to medical issues.

My mother had me at 38. Everyone I talk to about their parents describes less competent and less healthy parenting than I received. It's one data point, of course, but it's not a wild idea that older, more mature and experienced people who understand how to navigate a long-term relationship will make better parents. I think the big reason people say that women shouldn’t have kids past like 35 or whatever (though I’ve mostly heard it for past 40) is because of the increased chance of birth defects, increased risk of certain mental or physical health defects, etc. and not because of them being incompetent, but modern medicine makes some of those points moot and are obviously based on individual risk factors. My husband and I got married at 22. We both acknowledge that it was absolutely a mistake. We should not have gotten married yet. We were not mature enough yet we had not fully developed enough yet we were not stable yet. That doesn't mean that you have to separate and not continue dating but I would not recommend signing any legal documents at the age of 22. We both had our growing that we had to do. We are still together at 36 but we did not need to get married at 22.

For some people, a woman over 30 is 'used up,' especially if she was married. A woman is supposed to be young and pretty, not a mother or grandmother. There's no 'grow old with me: the best is yet to be' for these folks. Back when people didn't travel very far and extended families lived in the same town (or even the same household), young people had help from relatives. There were older relatives to consult for advice and assistance, even to be role models if parents were less than ideal. Life was not as complicated then (for the most part), so there was less to keep track of and navigate. Young people could marry and do reasonably well because there was always somebody to provide a hand with childrearing, work, cooking, cleaning, and the other necessities of life.

A woman in her 20s is literally a decade or less out of childhood. Thirty isn't old and the idea that a woman is only attractive when she's closer to childhood/adolescence is creepy and predatory. Fully developed frontal lobes, mature personalities, and wisedom are arguably more valuable to building a strong family than youth. You're a kid for 18 years. I think spending your twenties learning self-governence and learning your own independent voice is vital to a healthy relationship with *yourself*.

My mother got married at 22 and I feel like I already "failed" now that I'm 26 and my first relationship didn't work out. But also I don't want to date right now. I think one of the unhealthiest things we have done in this age of social media and internet is try to prescribe a formula for dating/marriage. The real reality is there isn't a plan or blueprint you can follow to have a successful marriage. At the end of the day, its a leap of faith to a degree of course and you don't know what life has in store. And for every person that got married early I bet i can find an example of someone who got married later, both living successful happy lives. Just because something worked for some people doesn't mean it works for everyone. We are all way to different to just be a data point in a topic like this. There isn't really a race to get married, nor a method to the madness you just live life try to meet people when you feel ready and thats it. Nothing is owed to anyone and you hope things turn out great sometimes they do sometimes they don't.

The concern trolling about women’s fertility is blatant projection specifically from men, considering that sperm counts on average have been decreasing and that spermatozoa are the “less quality” gamete, biologically speaking. I'm mid 40' my mum had me 31 in the late 70's. She had the audacity to study to become a teacher before getting married. My dad was the same age but it was his second marriage. This trend is getting bigger but its not new. The reason they are fighting this is to have alit if kids you have to start younger, but there are few examples of stable big families. I got married when I was 25. I was idealistic, young, innocent, naïve, and a hardcore Christian. I'm now 36 and atheist, divorced, and happily living with my ex muslim partner. Who I am now and who I was when I got married are completely different people, and honestly I would not regret my marriage because it helped me grow as a person, and we have a wonderful son together. I do not recommend. I would have never gotten married had I not been brought up to think that was the normal progression in life that everyone wants. Had I known I could have just lived with a person and be happy, and it wasn't a "sin" I would have taken that instead.

My grandparents got married when she was 21 and he was 32 I think? And they were really happy together. My parents were married at 33 and 34, and they're happy together. You gotta do what you feel is right, based on the information you have, and that's the best your life is ever going to be.

When you find that you aren't doing anything different when they are there as opposed to when they aren't, that is to me when you met the right person. Sure, there may be some stuff that you do find you keep for privacy but the majority is fine. Singing, dancing, being a slob when lazy. Stuff like that you feel comfortable doing when they are there. It is like being able to breathe freely. Edit: to the one who said they couldn't be themselves, until you can, I don't think you will find that person who you will be happy with. If there are parts of yourself that you hide, figure out if it is a bad trait like anger or clinginess that you need to fix. Or if you are just worried that someone will make fun of you because you can't sing in tune or something like that. A good partner will never shame you or make fun of you at your expense.
