Video from FOLKESTONE in the early 1990's, when locomotive namings took place at Central Station to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Battle of Britain (1990) and steam action returned to the steeply-graded Harbour Branch to celebrate the inauguration of the Channel Tunnel (1994). A reminder too that the Harbour Station was also the ferry terminal for the Venice Simplon Orient Express.

Brilliant. If only we could turn the clock back. Seems to me the world was a better place. Thanks for sharing. All the best Mick.

Great memories of Folkestone for me as a child in the 1960's and seeing this more recent footage is a great reminder. What a terrible shame though that some the best features of Folkestone have been erased for ever and poorly surplanted with low-grade developments. The Grand Burstin hotel in particular is a shockingly awful edifice.

it's a shame that it's still not like that it should have been saved 100%😥

In the old days the trains were usually operated by a trio or quartet of 0-6-0 tanks and the train engine (pacific or Lord Nelson) usually attached at Folkestone East for the run to London. The viaduct and Station are currently being restored into a museum.

11:11 so really, they were celebrating the imminent doom of the line that they were working on? Cracking footage by the way! :)

Wow how times have changed…..you would never be allowed to even go near the juice rail like that now without the confirmation that it’s switched off.let alone putting a ladder over it.😂
