ABC TV News: TasRail has engaged a Triabunna-based firm to manufacture specially-made wagons that can be adopted to carry both logs and containers. The issue of back-loading - or insufficient use of back-loading - for improved economies of scale has dogged Tasmanian Railways for many years. Log trains heading north return south empty, so with "LogTainers", a specially made "cradle" for carrying logs is mounted to a conventional intermodal (container) wagon, enabling better use of the same wagon in both directions.
