I remember 1980 like it was yesterday, Pele is near 40 years old here, Stallone is like early 30s. Sly is really a very sharp guy, people don’t realise how smart, well read and meticulous he is. Those brand movies ‘Rocky’ and ‘Rambo’ were no lucky accident, they secured his future even when writers block hit hardest. He knew the massive appeal Pele had even though he couldn’t act in any appreciable capacity. Im so glad they made that movie together ‘Escape to Victory’ that at least is another lasting monument to the enduring legend - Pele of Brazil. Edson Arantes do Nascimento, RIP.

I remember this movie coming on TV in the UK all the time, in the early 80s. I don't know how well it went down in America, but I suspect it wasn't successful there. The movie is a bit silly, though. The director or whoever choreographed the action wasn't a goalkeeper coach, or at least not a good one. A goalkeeper wouldn't try to catch a shot in midair. Instead, they're taught to parry the ball when it's coming in at high speed. The only time they hold the ball is if they get their body behind it on the ground, or when the ball is crossed. When it comes to shots on goal, the ball is moving too quickly to attempt a catch. Much of a goalkeeper's action then is to punch, or block, or redirect the ball away from the goal. I remember even watching this movie as a kid and thinking Americans are awkward when it comes to football/soccer. Every other player was acceptable apart from the goalkeeper, which isn't the actor's fault. I'm pretty certain if they remade this movie, the action would be top-notch.

I remember watching Cosmos games on TV as a kid. Pele did a lot for Soccer ⚽️ in America by making this new League. I have a European background and my relatives all love Soccer so I played it in high School and learned it. But the USA was lacking a proper League and Pele helped popularize the game here with the Cosmos. Now we at least have MLS Soccer ⚽️ and get to see great players after they retire. I enjoyed the Cosmos and I got to see Beckham play for the LA Galaxy! They were great! So thanks Pele! RIP 💐
@lospaisasoriginal5454
@lospaisasoriginal5454 Жыл бұрын
And you know what? The USA men's team is way stronger than it thinks. Look at Morocco. They made it to the first 4... Its all psychological... If your team trains to do some damage to teams with history USA can easily get to the first 4. Canada has a good team also. But Alphonso Davies missed a penalty and the whole team psychologically got scared. I mean really you can even be unsporstman like and hurt somebody's Hero like Modric, Ronaldo, Messi. They did it to Maradona in Barcelona. So many. So many got seriously injured on purpose. What does your team want to do????? USA totally has it in them to shine very very bright. It can be historical for youth to see that. Drive them in hordes to practice a rather inexpensive sport to practice.
@dynjarren8355
@dynjarren8355 Жыл бұрын
@@lospaisasoriginal5454 Strangely enough, the women’s team has done rather well. I think all it would take is one breakout star to play for Team USA and people would follow it a lot more. I don’t recommend injuring any one. I like a nice clean game and winning on merit. Not because their star player was out due to injuries. That is not winning in my book! That’s one of the reasons I admire Brazils style of play. They don’t do dirty fouls and use dirty tactics like throwing elbows and bad tackles. That garbage interrupts the flow of the game as well so I don’t like it. There are MLS players who play in Europe on pro squads so we do have some good players. We just don’t have the great players yet. It’s just going to take time. I love the NFL too and I think there’s room for both to be successful leagues.

Here in Brazil is pretty hot over the whole year as well. However, the man was sweating the hell of it in the cabin. We're usually sensative to cold, at leat where I live. Pelé was born in the same State as I was, which is Minas Gerais. He lived here until his age of 3 in a small town called three hearts ( 3 corações), then he moved away. Now the street on which he was born is named after him and his early house was rebuilt exactly as it was when he was a three year boy. There's also a statue of him in the main square. May his soul rest in peace in the evergreen fields of the paradise up above!

Algumas pessoas falando que o Pelé tava suando demais, claro, eu acho que ele tinha acabado de jogar e subiu pra dar entrevista, e se foi na época do verão piora a situação, verão dos EUA é quente demais. O rei mandou bem no inglês!

Ele devia estar ali só pra comentar mesmo, ele se aposentou 3 anos antes mais ou menos. O problema ali devia ser a falta de ar condicionado na época.

👑 Rei Pelé, he had a beautiful demeanor and personality. He was a humble man with natural talents and doors were always opened to great possibilities in his life as a human being and as an athlete. I will always remember Edson Arantes Do Nascimento AKA Pelé with gratitude. 👑 Rest In Peace King
