I mean considering the school knew that this kid was a target for bullying and harassment for years and didn't do anything about it I think a lot of the blame is also on the school system. School shootings don't just happen. There's always a reason behind it even if the means aren't justified. School systems should be held responsible for neglecting children and allowing harassment bullying and assault happen in the schools. The US schools are more into crying about people after the accident is already happened then fixing the problem before it happens to begin with

If a judge does not sign for a search warrant they can not go inside. The police don't make laws. They carry them out and Lawmakers make the laws. The school is more to blame then police. Of course the father the main culprit besides the son who has serious mental problems. The police do not know what he does or said in school nor has the proof of him posting on social media. It is easy to say what should have been done and that started at home. I think the school knew of threats sent. If they did the judge should grant a search warrant. Though who's the person that called it in or emailed it? The police can not just by a hunch arrest them. Both father and son outright lied to them but who knew?

This is so heartbreaking. its devastating. I'm from Montreal Canada. where one of the first school shootings took place. Polyvelonte , the second Dawson College, my son locked in a classroom pushing desks against the door, I could hear the gunfire just outside the door while I was on phone telling him to be strong. but we have two in 40 years. We have very strong gun laws. America what is going on? Reform the gun laws or at least enforce them.

It looks like when Colt changed schools, they may not have conveyed the information about his previous investigation and that they were watching him..if he was allowed to go to school after the initial investigation, they should have had him going to a psychologist regularly, and passed his records to the new school, evaluating him to be sure he was safe for it. Going to a new school where he was still picked on may have put him over the edge.
