The end of an era, with Brokaw retiring in December 2004, and then with Dan Rather forced out in March 2005, and Peter Jennings having to quit due to his cancer diagnosis in April 2005. These 3 represented an era when people had trust in their evening news broadcast. But after they left, with the national media still bitter of Bush's narrow wins in 2000 and 2004, the media became much more extremist, fueled by the Democrats retaking Congress in 2006 and Obama winning in 2008. Also, along the same lines for Cable News, I stopped liking Fox News after "Colmes" left "Hannity & Colmes" in January 2009 (making it just the Hannity show), and I stopped liking CNN after Larry King retired in December of 2010 (leaving us with Anderson Cooper and Don Lemon). Just like the "Big 3" news networks, Cable News became unbearable in the 2010's, becoming more and more extreme partisan.

Little did we know this would be the unofficial start of the post-Peter Jennings era. If only he was able to beat the cancer. Today now marks 17 yrs since he died. I was 13 and a couple of weeks away from starting 8th grade at the time. And the kids that were born at the time of his passing are about to be high school seniors (and maybe some about to be high school juniors depending on when their parents enrolled them for Kindergarten). EDIT: 4:46 - 4:49 The Hispanic Pope would arise...nearly 8 yrs later. 5:19 - 5:22 Ultimately, they opted for the short term pope with Ratzinger/Benedict XVI. Of course, none of us knew he would retire in 2013.
