Family of 21-year-old truck driver found dead in Henderson, North Carolina speaks about case

"They have that right. This is their loved one, someone they truly loved that was taken from them," family spokesperson Candice Matthews said. The family and their attorney will be hosting a press conference at 12:30 p.m. in front of the Vance County Courthouse.

What a sharp contrast: The attorneys ( who I’m thankful for) clinically laid out the facts they have SO FAR., and then the parents came and as soon as that mother opened her mouth I was in tears. The tears continued as I heard the father. As a mother of sons, one of whom got his CDL and was excited to be a trucker, I am familiar with the excitement he felt, but also his surprise when he had to go to ‘sundown towns’. He referenced towns in Oregon, and W. Virginia, and preferred not going there, but he wasn’t able to choose where he went. I pray for this family to get answers, and a measure of peace.

They usually use wall straps to secure pallets. And use ratchet straps to secure the doors(if uncomfortable with locks).

@@micholakinola1053 possibly, that area not known for walking critters though. I live a few minutes away from there. Usually the reefer drivers will pull to the end of Martin Creek Rd. Where Vanco Mill Rd meet, and park until their 10hr break is up. It’s usually peaceful in that area. I know a couple of the drivers that park in that lot where his body was found. T & R truck and trailer repair is where most of us truckers go to get our major repairs done. And they’ll tell you that area is a good area to rest for truckers.

"Further review of surveillance footage from Walmart also shows as Magee was leaving the Walmart Parking Lot on September 10th, he stops, exits his truck, and gives something to a homeless person sitting at the entrance. The person was identified and interviewed by investigators. As a result of the interview, it was learned that Magee gave the homeless person money. Magee told the person that “I don’t know how much it is, but if I had more I would give it to you.” It was a total of $228 that was given to the homeless person. Pls investigate. Check his social media history, who he was texting, if he was lured, or asked to buy the rope for something else, if he was targeted, etc. You got to investigate it before ruling it a suicide. Do an autopsy too. Please. If you don't investigate, you might miss justice and overlook a crime committed and the person might do it again. Someone may have used a woman to lure him, they might have asked him to buy the rope in guise of it being used for something else.

Grew up going to Henderson x Vance county every summer as a kid as my pops was born there. Never had problems. It’s Blacks and Whites in that town. Javion secretly hated trucking…! he felt pressured to be independent in his life and finances and not to depend on mom or dad…. At 21 years old, it is not natural or normal for a young man or young woman to be isolated in a truck without social interaction in real time….. They recently lowered the age to 21 to be an over the road truck driver….. I’m a truck driver and I know it can be lonely and moments of depression can fall on you… 21 is too young to do that type of work. You need to have life experiences first in a social setting.

Usually, when a person dies from being hung with a rope, the hyoid bone remains intact because the weight of the body causes to rope to tighten just below the chin which is often above the hyoid. However it went down my condolences for his family. I hope they can find some closure.

Why are others asking for justice? 21 yr old man that with a ton of pressure from family to provide in a line of work that is HIGH STRESS and LONLEY, which makes them susceptible to depression and suicidal ideation. Demand 1: We call for the establishment of a standardized definition of lynching by all states within the federal government to categorize such crimes targeting our community. Merely categorizing them as hate crimes is insufficient. We also insist that the penalties for lynching be substantial to deter individuals and organizations from engaging in such heinous acts in the future. Finally, we demand that, if this is deemed as a homicide, that a full investigation ensue to uncover the nature of this crime and any potential links to racism.
