Santaquin Police officer hit, killed by semi-truck on I-15, suspect in custody

At around 6:30 a.m. Sunday morning, police conducted a traffic stop on Michael Aaron Jayne, 42, who was in a semi-truck. Jayne initially fled the scene, but made a U-turn and hit a Santaquin Police officer, killing him.

The judge that released this man the first time should be held accountable. Same type of situation happed a couple years ago when a guy that was high on meth lost control in Saratoga and killed those two kids. He was in a high pursuit chase in a stolen police vehicle about two months before those two kids where killed and the judge let him out while awaiting trial. Judges need to have their cases microscoped by internal affairs and held responsible for senseless releases.

My husband was almost killed outside of Vernal today during this high speed chase. Right before the suspect crashed, he tried to commit suicide by veering into my husband’s lane and attempting to hit him head on. Luckily, my hubby is a good driver and was able to swerve and avoid what would have ended his life, too. Our condolences to the family and friends of the fallen police officer. What a sad day for Utah. 😭
