- As many of you may know our 10th annual ABC7 Feed SoCal food drive is underway and the need is greater than ever because of the pandemic. Eyewitness News reporter, Marc Cota-Robles, introduces us to some of the people who are getting by, thanks to your generosity.
- We received vegetables. We received mask and canned goods.
- [Marc] Darla Anthony has no trouble asking for help, especially when it's made this easy.
- You pop your trunk. You don't have to get out. You don't have to go to anyone. They put everything in your trunk conveniently, very organized.
- It's all thanks to the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank.
- He was a bartender. Shutdown, pandemic hit.
- [Marc] We met the Mundo family from Lawndale among those still struggling from pandemic-related layoffs.
- If we hear of a food bank or a drive through anything, we're there.
- Oh, this is an unprecedented level of need and demand for food assistance. Seeing other natural disasters, economic downturns, recessions, nothing comes close to matching this.
- Pass the word out for people that need it.
- [Marc] Many recipients we spoke to speaking from experience.
- I say the quality is very good. And the variety is very good and you don't know what you're gonna get each time.
- So I got a lot of things. I've got milk and eggs and I got meats, I got chicken. Things that could last me all week.
- It is very hard to live on the retirement money, you know, and that's all my income.
- [Marc] The food bank was here when families needed help and they're still here today.
- It's taking a while for things to get back to pre-pandemic. Months and months maybe, hard to say. Maybe well into 2022.
- There's no shame in reaching out, in reaching out for your family.
