Sorry about the loss of ur father. My mom wasn't able to come to my graduation either. She had just had her surgery and been diagnosed with cancer and a year later she passed away on mother's day of bartholin cancer. I felt so alone on those two days I didn't have a mom around like everyone else did. Making it even harder was my dad also passed away 2 years later of three strokes but I think he really died of a broken heart he missed her desperately! Its been a very lonely couple of years without them. I miss them alot. They haven't been around for some of the hardest times in my life. I was diagnosed with cancer myself 5 years ago and having to go through so much alone took a huge toll on me.

The media is spinning one tale and ignoring the elephant in the room. One possible type of detail could have been a battle of vacation scheduling. The vacation book is passed around in battalions and it moves in order of seniority The Engineers have their book. Seems Tory was higher on that platform than John. Lets say John likes to quail hunt in South Dakota in October. If Tory were to take those 4 weeks for his vacation, that means John needs to find another Engineer to work for him. Station #81 is in the middle of nowhere. Think you can find a Malibu or Palos Verdes Engineer to drive 65 miles out of their way to cover for you. Little chance. So that means your quail hunting trip to see your dad and brothers and friends is not possible. You know as a rookie or 2nd yr guy, you get the vacation book last. As a 20 year guy you expect to get the weeks you want. But not always. And if you are having issues with a guy in your same job category, with 1 or more year of seniority over you, they could mess-up your yearly vacation plans. Not suggesting this is the reality but the vacation schedule is a big issue with FF's and normally guys show others some courtesy if they know person is planning a family reunion or vacation to some place, they will leave that space alone for them. But if you want to mess with someone, the vacation book is the way to do it and nobody can object.
