Drones are insanely cheaper than helicopters and are a hell of a lot quieter, criminals don't even know they're being followed!

I agree to a certain extent, but most drones don't go more than 25-30mph which most criminals can easily outrun. But for the most part drones should have been used years ago. And considering most drones are $500 or less, they had better have bought a ton of them at $35,000 and not just go with the most expensive vendor out there.

It's supposed to be the start. But we do need follow up prosecution. They can be used especially for Kidnappings and Armed Robberies. Those will be prosecuted.

And what is the problem? Use any technology that can help effect arrest. Also, increase the penalty for crimes. The DA said that a person was a repeat offender, so this arrest and conviction should be minimum of 30 years. What happened to 3 strikes? They need to get the right people involved who understand crime and criminals. Defense attorney minded people will never accept any reasonable consequences.

They are doing it to get the criminals out on the streets faster. Criminals complained about the aresst, booking and release wothout bail can take as long as an hour. Democrats are also considering giving criminals free drones so they can track the police and avoid the inconvenience of an aresst.

I agree with the Electronic Frontier Foundation. How can you be sure the police will delete videos after 30 days? And drones are not quiet. A surveillance society where you will be caught on camera even in your backyard or camping, and tracked, if they feel you are an undesirable, or non-yuppie. Too much power in the hands of a few.

Many big cities in China are safe for tourists, women and elderly people to walk at night because cameras are everywhere and the police can access them in real time. No one dares to commit crime there.

There are places here with cameras everywhere, and still plenty of crime. The difference is cultural. In China and especially Japan it's shameful to break the law, and there are consequences. Not so much in California.
