Just turned 12 years old when this newscast aired. RIP Roger Grimsby, Bill Beutel, Bob Miller, John Slattery, Milt Lewis & Roger Sharp. Tracy went upstate to WTEN, now retired, don't know Storm's whereabouts, but this was when the news was worth watching!

Storm Field, Born Elliott David Field, November 25, 1948 (age 75) Field was let go by WWOR in 2007 after ten years due to cutbacks at both WWOR and its sister station, WNYW, and was replaced by former WCBS weather personality Audrey Puente. He retired shortly thereafter. Field has two daughters and lives in Westchester County, New York.

I can’t get enough of it! I get chills. I think it is a wonderful news orchestral piece. I could play it on repeat tbh. I’m also in tv news. None of the local news intro music is like this anymore.

October 8, 1980 (I was 8 year old at that time) I was in my 6th year in The Bronx when all this was happening. The NYCTA buses and subway cars were experiencing a Graffiti pandemic. Carter will lose the presidency to Reagan a month later. This new decade would start a development for me that will garnish so many awards along the way

No big fancy graphics and stingers. Creative writing that told the story. No obsession with the present tense. A real sense that the journalists were having fun as they reported the news. I wish local news was more like this.

They noted in the promo they were on late, which suggested this was following Game 2 of the National League Championship Series at Veterans Stadium in Philadelphia between the Phillies and Houston Astros which I believe started at 3:05 PM ET and was three hours, 34 minutes in length as the Astros won 7-4 in 10 innings.

RIP Bill Beutel (1930 - 2006) I was 12 in 1980, he was 49. He anchored channel 7 eyewitness news for many years. He died at age 75 in 2006
