I started doing this 2 Christmases ago - it is a game changer! Not only is it beautiful and environmentally sound, but it makes wrapping go SO much faster. It only takes a fraction of the time of traditional wrapping! I go to a lot of thrift stores and anytime I find a pretty piece of fabric (tablecloth, pillowcase, sheet, cloth napkin, etc.) I grab it up and add it to the wrapping fabric box.

Also look in the scarves section to find lots of hair/head/neck scarves!

@@Joy21090 At our local thrift stores prices have jumped on any kind of clothing. Scarves are still nice to have but they will cost more now, at least around here.

If you’re trying to be eco friendly you don’t even have to buy furoshiki cloths or if you don’t want to buy them. you can also cut squares from thrift store clothes and sheets and hem them. Can still look very cute. I personally love having some cute furoshiki patterns of fruits and stuff AND reusing pretty sheets this way.

Just remember that things like thrift store sheets are for people who can't afford new sheets, blankets etc.

I didn't know this was a Japanese thing, or there was a name for it - but I started wrapping gifts with quilting fabric so that my quilting friends ended up with two gifts; some cool fabric to use for their quilts and whatever was inside. :D Love the idea, hope it catches on everywhere.

I'm doing this for Christmas. I bought alot of Christmas theme fabric and I love the idea that someday when I am no longer here the fabric could be passed down and be used for gift wrapping on Christmas for my grandkids or great grandkids etc...

I’m in love with this technique! The parents of both my in-laws came from Japan and my father-in-law is very kind and is always thinking of me gifting me fruit and being mindful of my preferences when we have family gatherings. I’ll be making my first furoshiki by wrapping a book on Nagomi (from Ken Mogi, the author of Ikigai) for his birthday and second by wrapping two (lucky Japanese number!) handmade soaps for his mom, who is now 102 and he takes care of her. So excited to learn this! I’m sure it will stay with me forever. It’s beautiful, unique and eco-friendly!

I purchased fabric from a second hand shop today to use as gift wrap. One of the store attendants asked for a KZbin link so I sent her this one, suggesting they may like to do a display sometime 🥰

What a wonderfully sustainable way to wrap gifts, and the cloth can be used afterwards as a scarf, a tied up bag, etc. I once tried being sustainable by reusing good condition tissue paper as gift stuffing, but some people took offense at it.😒
@Joy21090
@Joy21090 11 ай бұрын
Anyone who takes offense is thinking more of himself/herself than he/she is thinking of our precious planet. Anything that can be re-used should be re-used.
