The wilds of south-west Tasmania are the dramatic backdrop to this story of cannibalism. A bizarre survival technique used by one of Australia's earliest prison escapees, convict Alexander Pearce.

The editing, cinematography and stage presence of Les make this an excellent show even decades later. Australia is so incredibly interesting.

It's good yet seasons 1 and 2 are even better and older! It was a shame that Rory O'Donoghue wasn't a part of this third season for the music track beyond the intro clip.

There's a great song by Aussie folk rock band Weddings, Parties, Anything called A Tale They Won't Believe that taught me this story in 1990. Went on a visit to Sarah Island on my honeymoon. Bush Tucker Man was my childhood hero in a time when 'media' was newspapers, the ABC and one or, depending on signal, 2 local commercial tv stations. Thanks for upload ABC 👍

3 seasons with Les Hiddins as The Bush Tucker Man was simply… criminal. I’d LOVE a 4th season more akin to season 1! Just a relaxed adventure with tips and tricks.

Who was treated worse by the British, the indigenous or the convicts. They were tough times and tough people but they got things done. We should all be grateful for the hardships they endured to build a nation and be thankful that we can now leave those days behind.

I really enjoy your presentations Les but it often strikes me that you frequently talk about the British people having done something quite brutal and I’m sure that I won’t be the only British person to appreciate it if you could occasionally acknowledge that it wasn’t the British people but was on the orders of the British government whom most of the British people could not elect.

I will also add,as a fellow Brit, that the Australians own treatment of the Aborigines is not much better than how the Brits treated them either. Great show though and really love rewatching it so many years later. Just as a caveat,my ancestors were just as likely to be Irish at this stage too.

They made one convict lash another. If it wasn't good enough, they would be lashed. Most lashings in one year in the British Empire. What a record to have. Not good on ya Tassie.

Very interesting, after seen the movie "Van Diemens Land" i look all the videos about Alexander Pearce. Just note, we don´t have to forget that in does times, a British jail was much worst then the Tasmanian prisoner camp. Big cities in England were stinky, dirty, epidemic, high criminality. So, in a certain way, the prisoners had a lesser worst treatment comparing. Greetings from Spain.
