Akash is not a Tamilian. I think Asians in west tend to perform better because of the pressure from the parents, our culture do give importance to academics than most of the westerners. There is a catch though, because of that we have fewer entrepreneurs. I think as a human, we wear different identities. When there is a religious debate, I identify myself as a Hindu. During Pakistan - India match as an Indian. If I go to a different state in India - I am a Malayali. There are a lot of different caps you wear depending on the situation you end up in.

When the guy said the word it sounded to me like he pronounced it bacteria-lytic rather than bacterio-lytic...that's how my ears heard it and not being familiar with the word I would have spelled it the same way based on how he pronounced it. Then he told the kid to not touch the mic when he was about to ask a question which threw him off.

What probability has to do with it? I'm just saying being Indian has nothing to do with spelling bee. If that was the case, many Indian kids would've won it by now. These are American kids from Indian decent who got better opportunity, better learning environment and better tutoring. So them being American contributes more to their victory than them being Indian decent. I hope you the enlightened will understand what us peasants are saying here.
