ALWAYS WEAR A SEATBELT DURING FLIGHT ✈

Hi! Just wanted to share that this incident is very rare, apparently from reports in Singapore, passengers had just finished their inflight breakfast and some were queueing for the restrooms hence so many of them were not strapped in. And unfortunately, there wasn't any warnings from the pilots nor the crew as this was a sudden violent turbulence.

You are supposed to. Some flight instructions video tells you this. The seatbelt sign when off just means you can get out of your seat to do stuff. But when seated, you should still keep the seatbelt on. When the seatbelt sign is on, it means no restroom or getting food at all.

@DM_1313 that's fair. We don't know where people were located prior to the accident. At least, I haven't researched it. If you know where they were, let us know. It looks like a few of the injuries were from sitting down since they wouldn't have hit that part of the ceiling if they were in the aisle.

@takumi2023 one passenger account said that one of the serious injuries was a man in the washroom, and another person was waiting outside. I do not know of others but from another passengers' account he helped two ladies who were seated, so yes maybe belts were loose or not not fastened. I agree though, always wear the belt when seated!

@@DM_1313 - Passengers from third world countries who defecate by squatting, are often puzzled by airplane toilets, and will actually put their feet on the toilet seat and then squat down to defecate into the toilet. Balanced precariously, they are prone to falling when even minor turbulence is encountered. Maybe that contributed to some injuries.

New aircraft have gotten so good at using weather forecasting and radar to avoid 90% of turbulence that it's caused complacency among passengers. Back in the 1960s only the worst turbulence could be avoided and that was mostly based on reports from other aircraft on the same routing and very basic weather forecasting. As a result passengers learned to expect it at any time and were careful to keep their seatbelts on. I remember flying back from Hawaii in 1967 in a Super DC-8 when we encountered what was around 45 minutes of severe turbulence (2-3 seconds of freefall and then being slammed in our seats) yet there were no serious injuries despite the coach food service just being handed out. Food did end up everywhere and the gentleman next to me got red wine all over his white shirt but that was it. At 9 years old it was almost kind of fun for me and I wasn't too worried as my DC-8 pilot father said that it was all going to be ok.

@@frmerrin2 Boeing is already being investigated. Unfortunately, businesses rarely allow for an investigation that they can't control the outcome to. What we have learned so far from the inspectors and whistleblowers regarding Boeing, is that similar to other businesses, they have been sacrificing the quality of their products, to make more money. Contrary to the popular thought that the best businesses are the last ones standing, sadly what really happens is that the most profitable business, is the last one standing. that is a big difference. to make more money, a business must constantly make their products worse, by using cheaper ingredients. Also, by firing workers and forcing the remaining employees to do the job of 3 or more people at a time. this too sacrifices quality at the expense of the worker and the consumer. Many flight attendants have gone on strike to protest these inhumane working conditions. not surprisingly, pilots have recently been joining the flight attendants to protest the horrible working conditions. Bad quality planes and overwork. All in the name of making the shareholders at Boeing more money.

Makes me wonder why the pilot could not foresee as bad weather was ahead. Anyway, flying on Singapore airlines while typing this. This does not take away from the fact that Singapore Airlines is by far the best airlines that exists in 2024. And I flew 80 flights this year' with over 25 different airlines. Wish others could emulate the service, yes that includes Emirates, Qatar etc.

This is my greatest fear. Which is why I’m heavily medicated while flying!!

Not having your seat built on means you get injured or you DIE!

How many of badly injured were not wearing seatbelts???? Should have only been a small number ie going to toilet, up having a stretch or crew up and working. When someone tells the horror of being woken up and being thrown across the cabin 🤦🤦 Zero sympathy. Considering others with zero injuries saying they glad they had seat belts on

No I'm walking from here on out. Plus I don't like flying. It's for the birds.

Ive been flying for 23 years and i can tell you the 2 absolute worse airlines for turbulence are Alaska and American Airlines. Stay off of those at all costs.

Like masks, like seatbelt. Some will never wear it despite the risks. Never take flight for granted. CAT is a huge risk factor. Like earthquakes, you never know where or when it will strike, and you also don't know if your aircraft will withstand the forces it can produce.

My condolences to the families of those who affected by this incident, Singapore Air and Boeing. Buckle Up like your life depends on it because it might be the only thing keeping you from being seriously injured.....It might be time for airlines to install air bags like those used in automobiles.

Oh my. This is why flying terrifies me. You just have no control when you’re in the air. I am praying for the souls of the deceased, and the people who were injured. ❤ 🙏🏼 Also, before they mentioned climate change, I had a gut feeling that this is the reason for turbulence being so violent.

Did AI write this story? It starts with turbulence, and ends with the door plug again? How are those related in any way? No wonder I don't miss watching "the news" anymore - it's been dumbed down beyond belief
