I’ve been living in a plain area where there’re no endless mountains or large expansions of forests. It wasn’t until I watched the movie Only the Brave years ago that I first realized how devastating and destructive the wildfire was, how helpless people felt, how deeply they ached for the loss and how brave the fire crews were. Now it’s even more heartbreaking to see the actual images of fire engulfing everything. To those impacted by the disaster, may god bless you, may his healing hands rest upon you.

Seeing those poor old folks being evacuated seized my heart. Reminds me of Hurricane Harvey with elderly people just sitting in the flood water, unable to escape. The people in Lahaina had nowhere to flee but to the ocean. They did not have the same warnings and evacuation orders that those near LA had. I doubt the islanders have the same fire fighting infrastructure that California has. The tragedy in Lahaina was so much worse. But fire consumes all, and everyone dealing with wild fires is suffering. It's upsetting how quickly we forget the struggles of others. Or maybe there is just so much tragedy in such quick succession that we can't keep up.

For more than 10 years. And in all areas of CA. Remember the Oakland Hills fire? I think that was 70s or 80s. The summer dries vegetation out so much. One of the problems here when months of rain and dampness for winter and then months of no rain, dryness, and increased winds. It's totally different from the East Coast. It's sad, also because shortly after the rains are gone, crews cut back the wild plants and grasses growing between the sidewalk and curb. In our park, they removed the CA bay trees and a lilac tree, as well as the flammable Eucalyptus trees. The park now looks like a green parking lot. I just hope people can find a place to stay and that the wild animals escaped. 💦

This has been the worst fire outbreak I've ever seen, fire got literally 1 mile away from my home, that's never happened before! Air was basically unbreathable, the entire neighborhood was engulfed in smoke and we were out of power through the whole night, it is crazy and even scarier to think there's still no end in sight 😢

It is truly horrific. I feel concerned for those who have suffered and who are suffering in Las Vegas this January 2025. How agonising it would be to lose one's home, belongings, livelihood and documents! My heart aches for those facing this calamitous devastation. I earnestly pray that there has been no loss of life! Let us all pray that the victims are not going to face calamities as terrible as those being faced by the Palestinians in Ghaza. Rustom Jalaldeen. Sri Lanka.
