It's impressive to see how they broke free, remained free and went on to build a whole new community with a nice little church. May God continue bless this wonderful family.🙏💕

Although I'd seen the picture around age 14 it still makes me smile when it shows up at the 6:09 mark. The young girl standing on the right was my Grandmother. ❤

This is really emotional.❤🥲 Enslaved people fought and resisted with their blood, sweat and tears. Not only in America but in the Caribbean. They deserve to be recognized for their resilience and strong spirit for how much they endured and achieved. May their souls rest in the Lord.❤🙏🏻

I remember watching the “finding your roots” series, on PBS. 3 of the guests tested were related to King Charlemagne. Neil Patrick Harris, Bill Hader, and Michael Strahan. Small world after all.

I did my ancestry test and the information I located was astounding. 😮. We have long lost cousins everywhere. Something how America made it where we all have separated and got Lost 😢. GOD is good though through research. AMEN

Winifred "Winnie" and James "Jim" Shankle are a part of my legacy. I also have civil war vets in my family. Many enslaved Black Americans have a hard time accepting the horrific tragedy of the enslavement of black Africans in America.

President Abraham Lincoln (R) issued the Emancipation Proclamation on January 1, 1863. Robert E. Lee surrendered the last major Confederate army to Ulysses S. Grant at Appomattox Courthouse on April 9,1865. President Abraham Lincoln was assassinated and died on April 15, 1865. The KKK was founded on December 24 1865 in Pulaski, Tennessee by a group of Confederate veterans intent on keeping slavery. The Klan was established by Democrats in Southern *Democrat* states and it rapidly grew from a secret social fraternity to a paramilitary force bent on reversing the federal government’s progressive Reconstruction era-activities in the South, especially policies that elevated the rights of the local Black population. The KKK used voter intimidation, destruction of property, assault, and murder to achieve its aims and influence on upcoming elections. They targeted violence against African Americans and resorted to terrorist raids against them and white Republicans living in the south. They still practice intimidation and threaten anyone that doesn't agree with their ideology or policies. Their modern tool of choice? They brand us racists regardless of skin color and threaten us with a weaponized DOJ.

Republicans and Democrats changed "roles" in the 1950's-1960's. The Dixiecrats moved on over to the Republican party.
