This is the town the movie was about, but NOT the town where it was filmed. And, the story of the film was utter nonsense. The local paper sued, as did the Anchorage Daily News, as quotes were attributed to them that were made up. The Nome Nugget Newspaper owner and editor, donated the $5,000 she won in the settlement, to help us start an overnight winter emergency shelter for homeless, regardless if they were inebriated. This was the cause of so many of those "mysterious" missing people in the film. So now you have the rest of the story from a longtime Nomeite!

Well, no. It doesn't destroy the ocean. Instead, guys and gals like them help clean the ocean of toxins and garbage as well. Plus, the actual natural ocean floor material, after being ran through the sluice, falls right back down to the bottom.
