Wish we had these kind of sentences for DUI manslaughter in Australia. We have weak sentences where most offenders get 3-5 years in jail at best. Even the worst cases in Australia only get a max of around 15 years

Each state is different. Liberal states like California I haven seen judges give 5-7 years for felony DUI resulting in death. More conservative states like Florida usually gives up to 20 years or as you see in South Carolina who gives 25 years for DUI vehicular homicide.

Bingo. People love to say that it’s victim blaming when you call out an attempt to skirt accountability. If you set yourself for a high risk scenario, then you are tempting those consequences. Erring on the side of caution, especially in party areas, at night, and in a vehicle that isn’t built to protect you is smart. They just didn’t do it and they met with one of those negative consequences.

She didn’t take a risk when she is under the influence and her decision making process was inhibited. This plea deal is probably a temporary solution on advice of her counsel and will probably be changed over time. People have gotten less for the same crime in the past and she should too. This was not intentional and she will probably only serve a fraction of her sentence. Sorry that’s just the way she goes!

She will probably like a lot of cases like these will probably be let out in a couple of years on good behaviour. Also her father will still work with his connections and might be resentenced to a lower term and release sooner than expected and serve the rest on probation. I highly doubt she will serve a full sentence!

I don’t know, it’s not a serial crime, I hope they learn o forgive. I think when someone is already drunk and they needed to hurry up Togo home, some things like this happens.dont drink and drive. That’s what I always tell people and many ignore it. But yeah people do make mistakes, prayer
