In our country we have a saying "a donkey is a wonderful thing". Donkey's do incredible work all around the world. They deserve our appreciation, respect & love. And I've been around horses - not always graceful 😄

They are used as guard animals to protect a herd against predators. Saw videos with them doing that.

@@jannetteberends8730 I know donkeys are pack animals, carrying & pulling almost everything. Didn't know about the "guarding" thing - tx for the info. In many countries they use dogs. As part of cheetah & leopard conservation they breed the Anatolian Shepherd to protect herds from kitty predators. Geese are also good guard animals too apparently.

So what you’re saying is the Dreamworks people did their research when they decided to give Shrek a donkey as a friend

I jumped too when that turtle snapped. Poor horse just wanted to check out his new pasture-friend.

If you ever have to walk behind a horse, try to avoid it if you can. But if you can't, make sure to walk very closely behind them. This way, they won't have enough space to wind up a kick. The end of the horse's leg, where they kick out from, is where all the power is. So, if you're close to it, there won't be enough momentum to gain that 320km/h speed. This can help you avoid sustaining severe injuries. Some telltale signs that a horse is annoyed include ears being back, head bucking, and tail swaying aggressively. However, horses have different personalities just like us, and they can display these signs differently. It's important to remember that horses are pack animals. So, if they feel that their pack is threatened, they will defend each other. To avoid scaring a horse, which can be really dangerous, try not to make sudden movements. This is demonstrated in the tortoise video. Also, avoid making loud noises or sneaking up on them. It's not a good idea to pet a horse from behind because it might get scared and kick. Instead, approach them calmly from the front or the side, and address your presence verbally. This way, they will know where you are, as they assess their environment through sound.

When I was a kid, I was kicked in the back by a horse. I think at 5 years old, I logged more solo flight time than many professional pilots.

Horses and domestic cats get along really well, a bit odd since ancestral horses were hunted by big cats. I have seen horses and cats, neither of which had never seen the other species, encounter each other and immediately be relaxed and comfortable in each other's company, the cat walking and winding underneath the horses while the latter seemed careful to make no sudden move which might hurt the cat while the cats were completely unafraid of the huge animals. The Godolphin Barb, one of the famous founding sires of the Thoroughbred lineage had a companion cat, the two being inseparable and both dying within a short time of each other. There are man stories of horses and cats teaming up as friends and companions. Donkeys are prey animals too, but not being as fast as horses if threatened they apparently throw themselves on their backs and become a maelstrom of kicking hooves and snapping teeth. They also pull hideous faces which would scare the daylights out of anything. They certainly have me! I used to work as a farrier but didn't like doing donkey's feet. They can kick forward which horses don't do, and they give no indication if they are about to misbehave. I got on very well with horses but found donkeys dubious. I think they are smarter than horses and can play more tricks.

My friend has a sheep farm and she uses donkeys as her livestock guardians to fend off coyotes and wolves. She says they are perfect because they take care of the sheep but they will not tangle with humans at all so she doesn't have to worry about them with her children and visitors. She used to use Great Pyrenees dogs but they weren't great with people and one of them bit her husband so she made the switch.

When I was 10 or 11, I got bitten by a horse in London when I was taking a photo with a horse guard. He bit me on my upper arm so hard and it was bruised and painful for weeks lmao Scary to know if the horse wanted he/she could've broken my bones!

Its very likely the day will come when humans once again depend on horses, mules and donkeys for pretty much everything. And I love it when stupid people walk up to wild animals and get attacked despite given every opportunity to stand down. Even domesticated animals can react violently in stressful situations.
