Abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA or triple A)[6] is a localized enlargement of the abdominal aorta such that the diameter is greater than 3 cm or more than 50% larger than normal.[1] They usually cause no symptoms, except during rupture.[1] Occasionally, abdominal, back, or leg pain may occur.[2] Large aneurysms can sometimes be felt by pushing on the abdomen.[2] Rupture may result in pain in the abdomen or back, low blood pressure, or loss of consciousness, and often results in death.[1][7]
AAAs occur most commonly in those over 50 years old, in men, and among those with a family history.[1] Additional risk factors include smoking, high blood pressure, and other heart or blood vessel diseases.[3] Genetic conditions with an increased risk include Marfan syndrome and Ehlers-Danlos syndrome.[4] AAAs are the most common form of aortic aneurysm.[4] About 85% occur below the kidneys with the rest either at the level of or above the kidneys.[1] In the United States, screening with abdominal ultrasound is recommended for males between 65 and 75 years of age with a history of smoking.[8] In the United Kingdom and Sweden, screening all men over 65 is recommended.[1][9] Once an aneurysm is found, further ultrasounds are typically done on a regular basis.[2]

Survived a Type A Dissection Jan 7th 2020. Whole Aorta dissected. My decending section is 5.1 from 4.7 after my Emergency surgery. Getting close to having a stint installed. Hit the floor and pissed my pants at work when my Type A Dissection happened. No pain just incredible weakness.

I’ve been having similar sensations to this and I googled the symptoms and assumed i was pregnant but I’m not, I’m terrified. I need to go to the doctor but …I’m genuinely afraid. My husband in another state and I’m all alone. I’m so scared but i try not to think about it until i feel the heart beats in the top left portion of my abdomen. This would really be a sucky way to die.

Interesting fact is that my brother-in-law passed away from AAA. They’ve been monitoring it for years because my father-in-law has one. My brother-in-law was only 47. Never smoked. None of the rest factors that they described. Him and his wife were at yoga and he said he got a little dizzy and hit the floor. There were doctors in that same class but there wasn’t anything they could do to save him.

@@SeaFlower38 If it stays under a certain size it’s not necessarily stretching the walls of the aorta too thin. But once it goes over that measurement that’s when they have to do surgery and my brother-in-law put it off

I just had my first one this morning... the throbbing lasted for two hours... from. 4AM to 6AM... it's 6:15 now and the throbbing is starting to go away. But I need to stop drinking and smoking... I think that is what caused this for me. I don't want a ruptured aorta 😢

3 mm hmm - Did you see it on your scans? Where is it located? Go slice by slice on the CT and see if it connects oddly by liver. Do you have a fatty liver?

I have pulsing under my left ripcage often and I’m worried also have nausea and stomach sickness after meals for almost two months and esophagus pain was diagnosed with gerd , indigestion I take itopride meds to help with eating .tests done : hbylori negative, celiac negative, blood urine says normal , stool says indigestion, stomach scan says gastritis and the scan was for the stomach please advise

My brother died last year from this. He was coughing up blood a week before. He went to the toilet and then coughed up so much blood it covered the whole floor. He collapsed and died. I never had any idea of aaa before this.

I injured my back, the X-ray and subsequent US showed an AAA 5.9 cm wide and 6.0 cm long extending into both iliac arteries. I’m a 67 year old female. I am scheduled for a MRI and to see a vascular surgeon next week. It seems one that size will have a negative outcome with surgery. I’m already getting my plan in place in the event of my death. Am I over reacting? I want someone to be honest with me instead of placating me with, you’ll be fine, don’t worry about it. Thank you

@@donblade5405 the the fracture in my back turned out to be a “burst” fx of L3, which means the vertebrae burst into a bunch of pieces, the ortho dr handed me over to a spine specialist, he wanted me in a metal back brace but he didn’t want any pressure on my stomach due to the aneurysms. So I’ve had an X-ray, US of abd, MRI And a CTANGIOGRAM. To me they showed all different sizes and picked up 2 adrenal adenomas, also showed a lot of calcification and a “mural thrombosis”. So who knows, none of it sounds good to me but then again I don’t know how to read the tests. I see the vascular surgeon for a “pre op consult “ on sept 2nd. Why couldn’t they just say “visit”. I will let you know what the surgeon says. If I have to have surgery, I want to know the complications percentage of a stroke, loss of limb, or being paralyzed. Depending on how high that might happen, I don’t know if I want the surgery. The mural thrombosis thing scared me. That’s not right not getting your test because of Covid. They act like the sky is falling because of the aneurysm, I had my CTA ordered by a vascular surgeon on a Wednesday and I called Tuesday to see what is happening, they said, oh we didn’t realize you had the test, but they want me to see a different surgeon who specializes in AAA. It will probably rupture before anything is done. I’m sure they will want to do tests on my heart. I wish you luck.

@@shelley2726 wow. You gave me allot of info and I can understand why your spine doc wants you to handle the AAA first. I have don'e lots of research and I am.sure u have done as well. We all know none of its good but one question is how long have we been like this. I read and had conversation with the docs in hosptial.wbere I was for. 3 weeks(they original thought I had a spinal tumor but it was all.different issues. Severe stenois spine, spinal cyst and more crappy stuffl so yes wecould.of had these AAA for years. It's definitely a time bomb... however god.forbid something happens you will.know exactly what to tell the docs vs a normal.person who has no idea. .. I hope u are atleast stabl.with back pain. I appreciate u sharing you info. I am a mess. And need.to.followup. talk soon

@@donblade5405 how big is your aneurysm? I have no idea how long I’ve had mine, they (what I read online) if greater than 5cm the chance of rupturing in a year is high. Maybe Mine got to be a 5.8 a few months ago or maybe over a year ago and I’m on the verge of an explosion. Oh I have to wear a soft brace all the time and stay in bed. I live by myself and have a dog I have to take out. I hurt my back 4 days after I sold my huge house that I lived in since 1977 to a tiny 970 square foot apartment. (Beautiful luxury apt). I could no longer keep up with the maintenance of my house. My husband passed away 2 years ago from an undiagnosed brain tumor . So I’m not even unpacked yet. I put my house on the market and it sold in less than 24 hours, cash offer above the asking price. I guess you can’t come and help me unpack and get organized. 😟. Hahah to staying in bed. I let the 5 servants, my driver and the cook go when I moved. 😂.

Never reported on the ct dictation , but what the internist stated at the hospital where I was admitted that I needed to.follow up.with due to a small aaa and calcification of ADOMINAL AORTA.. vascular surgeon and if I remember (it been 1 year Feb 2020) they were more focused on what they originally thought was a tunor.on my spine.. As.far as selling your house for good $$$ and moving to a place thats.more.mangeable very smart.move. wish u had some help. Sound like.u have a fund's has to be a trust worthy person. U can hire. I hate to hear u a bed ridden.

@@AndriiIvanov-lb9gp yes he's ok they said he was very lucky he beat the odds now he has this thing in his chest and he said it sounds like he can hear his blood dripping and they said it will be something he will have to get used to but still drives him crazy but at least he is alive his daughter wanted to take care of him and nursed him back to health very sweet of her. he still is having a hard time because he can't do the things he once did and I can understand that would be hard on anyone.

My friend had one and he died before he could get to the hospital. His symptoms were bloating in the abdomen and extreme pain in the back. He went to bed and was found there passed away.
