could this be an example of a missing link between Saharan/Moorish music and American Black Baptist preaching/music ie Blind Willie Johnson? the rhythmic pacing and the pinched vocal chords and the overall tonality and melodic scale say yes, to my ears. After listening to Moorish music now for a few years and studying the blues my whole life, I'm starting to think there's a bigger musical connection going on here that needs more examination. I feel as though there must be direct influence back in time of Mauritanian melodies and styles on the original African American musics, especially blues and gospel.
