Undoubtedly it was a great advance of the HMD, compact screen, good camera, and premium design, I liked the device, after many wrong decisions it seems that HMD realized the ideal strategy, I liked the photos, it seems that they hit the camera, I hope they launch more models of this quality level going forward. I'm going to buy a white model, I thought it was prettier. Now HMD needs to improve availability in the markets, it's still very slow. Great analysis!

I hope that Nokia will keep on this track which to me is a bit back to first HMD Nokia devices. Back then they also focussed more on the build with just adequate hardware instead of going for high performance. I'm also hoping they will do similar stuf for the XR20 successor (if there will be one). By that I mean mainly shifting to the same hardware and screen as the X30. The XR20 already had my favourite build (a mix of metal frame and strudy polycarbonate in a effectively rugged style).

I wish HMD would release this phone in the US market. I own the Nokia X100 and I love it but they definitely need to release better mid range models over here. I know we recently got the G400 5G but it'd be cool if they started to bring phones over like this X30 for those people (myself included) who'd like a slightly better Nokia midranger with an improved camera setup with OIS. :)

@AbdullaZaki2 жыл бұрын
Thanks :D My car doesn't have android Auto, but usually problems related to it are not related to a specific phone. The software itself is very buggy, and I've had inconsistent experiences using it on multiple brands. Some people even consider this the biggest reason they prefer using an iPhone! I don't know if we will get an XR30 to be honest. I think we will most likely get an XR21, which will have similar shortcomings to the XR20.

So Nokia X30 is focusing on ultrawide camera, that capture fusion is totally amazing. But still no one knows if the next thing Nokia to improve would be the video recording. Anyway great job on doing something onto ultrawide camera, For years ultrawide camera is just a secondary camera and its quality will below the one of the main camera, Nokia X30 changed the rule. I strongly believe having a good camera and long lifespan are the most important features of a phone these days. Good camera when I need it at the spur of the moment and a long battery life for when I get too busy to take care of the remaining charge for the day. X30 seems to have those and I can't wait to buy it next week! Even my Nokia 6.1 Plus takes decent pictures too and the battery life is amazing!

While Android isn't as safe as the iPhone, you shouldn't have any security issues using the phone on a daily basis, especially if you don't plan on using installing 3rd party apps from unofficial websites. Nokia phones comes with enterprise recommendation, which also includes things such as safety.

The chamfered edges are a nice touch and FINALLY they put OIS on a new midranger, but the phone still looks a bit generic to me. It does not scream Nokia, more like Motorola. It is a bit odd they've never put the PureView branding on the back of any of the Android PureView phones. Any reason why that is? Historically, Nokia considered OIS as one of the criteria to get the branding. Also, congrats on getting sponsored!
@AbdullaZaki2 жыл бұрын
I think its because PureView is a niche branding that might not resonant well with regular consumers. I disagree with this idea because they can build the branding back up, but I'm guessing the bean counters won the debate of 50Mp OIS vs 50Mp PureView. Thank you :D

There is much to like about this phone - and much not to like .. which is a bit where Nokia is right now. Milling details on the aluminium edges look great .. reminds me on iPhone 6 or 7 details. The screen looks flat and the bezels are thin. I like that Nokia does not insist on the big chin area to print their name on with the x30. Instead looking much more modern with thin bezels. However .. they could have taken a page out of Apples or the "Nothing Phone One" book .. and made it 360 degrees even (ironically .. like Apple .. by making the side bezels thicker) I do not mind a plastic (or call it what you want .. polycarbonate or whatever) back. One of the best designs (Lumia 930) has an aluminium frame and a plastic back .. and it is very good plastic that feels solid. So if the plastic on the x30 back is similar or better .. - its equal to glass or metal in my books. What do i not like? The camera module looks cheap. The "stepped" design is a mistake .. a mistake done on all Nokia phones of that generation. To make it short .. you only apply "bling" to a module .. when there is something to draw your attention to. Otherwise you should go with understatement (see Nokia 9 Pureview). Older Apple phones (iPhone X or so) do actually do that pretty well. The camera module is small, understated. Most Chinese phones do it poorly .. adding HUGE modules, chrome rims and writing. When it comes to camera modules, i would prefer something like the current Xperia phones. Have a large module when you must (due to a large lense) but try to hide it when you do not have that. Current trends move away from large show-off modules and more towards stealth modules again (flush with the case, hidden or similar). Had they gone with a much, MUCH more minimalist design .. or tried to fully build the camera flush into the housing .. the phone would looks phenomenal... and would also be set apart from the cheaper G versions.
@AbdullaZaki2 жыл бұрын
I completely agree with your ideas about the camera module. I'm not a fan of the step at all, and a simple centered circular or oval shaped camera plate would have done the job much much much better. I hope next year's design language fixes this.

I replaced my Nokia 7 plus with the X30, the speaker on the X30 is terrible, static noise on low volume, but it's noticable even on mid/high volume. Hi Tamas, I have 2 X30s, the white one you see in this video and another blue one I bought about a month later. The white one doesn't have static noise at all, while the blue one does. My guess is that some units have a faulty loud speaker, and it's hard to know exactly how widespread the issue is.

What about Nokia's camera app? They stopped supporting the app from January 2021. It's 2022 now. My phone is Nokia XR20. Yes, the pre-installed Nokia Camera application blurs details randomly and where it is not needed (for example, the collar of a knitted sweater will be blurred to a flat surface). Nokia support, on my requests, offers to reset the settings to factory settings, but this does not fix application bugs. Disgusting guys, Nokia Lumia 920 was my favorite phone and there were no such problems in it

I'm curious about your problem with the XR20. Can you share some image samples with me? fyi, Nokia and most other OEMs don't update their camera apps regularly. It isn't abnormal to find a phone with a camera app from the time it was sold. (flagships are the exception)

Am happy because Nokia mid-range smartphones now compete and challenging other brands' flagships. And people must note that all X30 missing features are fully available with G60, and I bet there is no big performance gap between Nokia X30 and Nokia G60. Thanks for the review #AbdullaZaki. And eagerly awaiting for the affordable Nokia C31 full review🙏🙏
@AbdullaZaki2 жыл бұрын
You're right, if your priority is getting a similar level of performance for less money, the G60 does the job very well. But yeah, the X30 in the quality and camera aspect is in a completely different level :)
@sferalotus2 жыл бұрын
my opinion on this devices, i still think X30 is overprice for what its give to us. at least, give us better SOC for this kind of price. better SOC doesnt always mean better performance, but also better image processing, better signal receiption, better support in long terms. and they should cut corners by using GG4 or GG5, GG Victus is expensive but the durability is not like 50% better than GG5. they should go back to 7 series approach, which using all "flagship killer" features and hardware, but with competitive price. now, most consumers will only see that HMD is taking the profit higher for every phone they sell.
@AbdullaZaki2 жыл бұрын
I see it as a matter of priorities. And you're right that the SOC does affect other aspects, but you'll rarely if ever see a brand using a midrange SOC and getting the full potential out of it. So even with a technically inferior ISP, I'm certain the X30 would produce better images than most SD778 phone in low light, due to optimization. And when you look at the technical aspects between the SD778 and 695, they aren't that different. If one of them will struggle in 3 years, so will the other. I don't see either struggling. With GGV vs GG5, V is better at resisting drops, which I think is something Nokia with its focus on durability, made the right choice in. If you take the X30 as an excel spreadsheet of numbers, you might think "its overpriced". But take it as a whole, with camera, build quality, software support, longevity, ecology aspects in mind, and its a different story. Might not appeal to everyone out there, but its appeal isn't too niche either.
@sferalotus2 жыл бұрын
@@AbdullaZaki ya, nice point too. Perhaps HMD is going with Sony's strategy where it launch phones not to follow the mainstream, but follow its philosophy, where performance is not the focus but durability is the focus. However, i do really hope HMD can really launch new model to replace 7 series, where it targets is for everyone. X-series in my opinion is not for everyone.

A question - How good is the haptic feedback of this device?

Nokia should take notes from Google and its Pixel 5, Pixel 3a and 4a work. Keeping it simple. Not a flagship processor, but a 2nd tier processor and keep only the functional cameras: no macro, and choose between zoom or ultra-wide, along with the normal sensor. No gimmicks since Google is working the software out.

Dear Mr Nokia, maybe you can answer this. Just tried S22 Ultra and Pixel 7 Pro against my X20. Why can't these super expensive phones really make as nice and natural photos as the Nokia phones (X20 in this case).. Both Samsung and Google severly overprocess the end result.. They are both going back to the store. And another question, is the X30 selfie camera better than the one in X20? I mean I watch these videos, reviews and whatnot and you get super photos on them from the latest offerings from the big boys but when I put my hands on one of them it's big dissapointment. Are they shipping less quality stuff to the masses? I mean it's the same story. Every couple of years I would be tempted to try something new thinking the big guys finally caught up with Nokia and try 2-3 phones only to be disappointed and go back to my Nokia. I can tolerate Nokia not having good zooms but I can't tolerate overprocessed, unnatural photos.. And why can't Nokia slap a good zoom on theirs?
@AbdullaZaki2 жыл бұрын
Because unfortunately the current current in smartphone photography is overprocessed images, and reviewers will rate a camera phone highly if it produces "too good to be real" images, so brands are stuck in this cycle. Its for this exact reason Nokia camera phones aren't considered "amazing" by the tech community, because their processing is pretty subtle. I think the selfie camera on the X30 is better than the one on the X20. Nokia doesn't make any high end devices right now, and barely any midrange devices come with zoom lenses these days. Its simply a cost cutting measure to be competitive in other aspects.

@@AbdullaZaki Thanks for your answer, Abdulla. Yes, it seems the goal is to make pictures that look good on the tiny phone. I have tried many phones, they all overprocess. I am amazed that years ago with the Lumias we had much better picture quality and today's phones don't even come close. I still keep my 950XL for that reason and I also had 1020 which was another amazing phone. The other day I was looking at photos from the time I owned Galaxy S3. To be honest, Samsung didn't make much progress in picture quality all these years from S3 to S22! And something elese, Nokia 9 which I also owned also overprocesses a bit, but end result is not as ugly by today's standards.
@georgeharizanov60942 жыл бұрын
Just did a quick test between X20 and Pixel 7 Pro.. shooting RAW.. For the Nokia there isn't a big difference between the RAW and the JPEG. The Google phone on the other hand produces what looks like a terrible RAW image so this tells me that significant processing happens after that.. strange.. I didn't expect such big difference between RAW files.
@AbdullaZaki2 жыл бұрын
@@georgeharizanov6094 that's exactly it. Nokia has very subtle processing generally speaking, though on X30 its more aggressive than before..

So, it doesn't use patented Nokia PureView oversampling tech as we know and love it on the 808PV and Lumia 1020, right?

Modern phone use the same idea. I don't know about the technicalities behind the software, but this also combined 4 pixels into 1 for your shots. Differences in how its implemented versus old Nokia pureview phones is unclear

For example, using Snapdragon 778G instead of 695 for better picture & video recording quality. 778G also has the same stability as 695 when optimized.
