For anyone who still wants to experience Meego, it continued development with the team who worked on the N9 when they started their own phone company, Jolla. They made their own phone with similar interface called Sailfish OS, have since released one other phone with Intex but are now limited to running on pretty much just Sony devices. Sailfish OS is still being updated and developed, and can also run Android apps!

A really poetic review that appreciates the beauty and inspiration behind the project. It really does stand the test of time and agreed breaks my heart that we never saw further. I had the n900 and loved it's ancestor. Looking back I can see the loss of the keyboard and stylus as a logical move particularly when you see everything out here now, but at the time really struggled to see the benefit as I had really got used to my portable linux pda with full OS. I really would like to be in the universe where Meego and Nokia soared past android and Ios taking nokia to the present day creating more things of this kind of beauty.

Actually MeeGo had a successor: Sailfish OS. The same team that developed Maemo And MeeGo left Nokia and founded Jolla. Sadly they only released one phone model, simply called Jolla in 2013. There were plans to release a tablet and a second phone but, due to financial difficulties they never could release any physical device. Today they offer Sailfish OS as a licenced software for Sony Xperia phones and other. And because it has open source license, there have been ports for other devices also. Sailfish OS inherited all the functions found in MeeGo and was a breeze to use. They still release software updates to this day for the Jolla phone.

I owned (still have) the N900, N9 and Jolla phone from back in the day, and boy do I miss using them. There are still things that modern Android cannot do that these phones had like true systemwide multi tasking, why is it still so fragmented? Or simple things like double tap on the screen to wake? The after so long the muscel memory is still very real, somethimes I still find myself swiping from the edge of the screen to go back into my last app.

Maybe Nokia should release a N10 with sailfishos

Feel kinda guilty now because i really had quite a collision what to choose - n9 or one of the first Lumias. And this was so crazy and mind-blowing that i feared to take it and chose Lumia. Still liked my Lumia 800 and 1020, still regret WP failure (it was such a shame when Lumias were released by Microsoft, not Nokia), still believe 1020 was my best phone (having iPhone and Android now), but this n9 was a masterpiece. Thx for your review!

You made the more logical choice at the time as it was the future of Nokia. Still, if you have a chance to try the N9 you should. It's a masterpiece. I loved the lumia 800 at the time because of the resemblance :) btw if you liked your Lumia 1020, you can check out my camera review for it on my channel :)

@@AbdullaZaki I've already watched it, bro :) and i had a chance to try n9 and actually used it, that's why i wrote it was kinda mind-blowing.

Yeah, I remember this one. Saw it in some magazine and thought that it was a nice phone to buy. Don't recall why I haven't done so. After watching the video I feel like I've missed something cool.

Agree with many of the sentiments in this video regarding the N9. Never has their been another phone for me blended hardware and software so perfectly and it was just a pure pleasure to use. The hardware feels amazing in the hand and MeeGo like the video states just begs to be used for no reason whatsoever just to experience the beauty of the swipe based gesture UI. The only other dead mobile OS for me saddens me today as much as MeeGo is webOS but the Palm Pre hardware only wishes it was as good as the N9.

Its truly a shame that such a masterpiece will only be remembered fondly by the few number of people that used it!

@@AbdullaZaki I still pull mine out every once in a while but it's always a sad experience for me so I try to keep it locked away with my N8 and N900, phone's that were years ahead of their time and could be enjoying the fruits of being the top OS platform like Android does now if only released earlier and under different circumstances.

i am dying to buy older nokia phones bcoz they had a such a unique design compared to today's phones which almost look the same...Back then every nokia phone had its own design persona! Even the front screen design of this N9 is so good. This is the main reason I don't own a phone right now bcoz i am not attracted to any phone.

Wish there's a way hmd can revive meego and use it even to their feature phones

even by today's standards, this phone looks amazing. It's a complete mystery why this phone's os never took off. Much better than the windows os that the Lumia used.

OMG, Absolutely Brilliant Video and Story Depiction, the Presentation and What Stellar Choice of Words! Believe it or not, I got a box-packed brand new N9 and I'm hoping to make an Unboxing, but you have summarized everything that I ever wanted to say! Kudos to you Habibi Great Work!

And thing is, Winodows phone OS was , in the last years of its lifetime a kickass OS. Had iphone, android and when i got my Windows mobile ..i was like ohh," damn why didn´t i started to use it earlier". Sad that they killed it but ohh well what can we do. Sadly never had chance to play around with Meego.. and these phones as second hand ones rarely grace our market over here..

Best design ever made by Nokia - Nokia N9 truly deserve the title

There are a few Nokia models on sight to be bought and added to my collection. N9 is on top of it.. Still really sad I sold my first ever cell phone. Never sold anything since..
