In a perfect world a professional will do these checks but if you are remote or on an offshore island, you will be doing these yourself.
Check the gauge is in the green.
Check the safety seal is intact. If not then check for signs of powder in the discharge tube. If discharged, dispose of extinguisher. Otherwise replace safety seal with something that will break very easily.
Check body date of manufacture is less than 5-years ago.
Check powder is free, if not, free it up.
Punch yellow tag if all okay.
