What is Ephemera?

The word ephemera is one of words that define me. Maps, letters, postcards, greeting cards, newspaper cuttings, graphics, magazine cuttings, handwritten recipes, brochures, business cards, programs, church bulletins, calendars, . . . . ❤️

As a dealer, I’ve often started with the adjective, ephemeral. - describing cherry blossoms, soap bubbles, young love etc. things that aren’t expected to last. Now in terms of collecting, theoretically we’re talking anything from swizzle sticks to political banners though most people stick to paper goods - post card, valentine, trade cards, trading cards, on & on.

I finally recycled several box loads of political banners from the early 2000s. I just got tired of toting them around and didn't have any idea of their value or who might be interested in buying them. To me, they came to have zero value, so out they went.

I have always been a "saver" until about six years ago. Without having a way or the knowledge to identify the value of many objects, literally thousands of books I had acquired, and since then, boxes full of magazines and other "ephemera", I actually recycled them. However, I did save about 300 books to sell - which were near or over 100 years of age. I'd like to get those moving if I can find their values and a buyer.

WOW. I have been collecting maps for many years. I love maps!! I had no idea that maps are considered to be ephemera. So I need to keep my maps. They may become valuable one day!!
