Thank you for this video! I just enrolled my daughter in the K4 program and I was wondering about diversity. We go to the library weekly and get books to read all week and I try to make sure I get a wide range of books that show diversity. I was a little worried that Abeka wouldn't be as diverse since it looked like some of the materials were older, so it's nice to see that it is better than I thought! 🥰

@@PollyPatriot I’m sure your daughter will enjoy it. Mine did! It was so amazing to see her grow with each lesson and become an emerging reader by the end of the curriculum. If anything I’ve learned it is to let the curriculum serve you so it’s okay if you don’t follow it perfectly. Have a fun and successful school year.

Hello there, I’m thinking of purchasing abeka for my almost four year old who just went through level k primer from the good and the beautiful and I wanted to start her in a kindergarten curriculum until next year. But can you explain to me what the difference between abeka k4&k5?

K4 is more like advanced preschool where as K5 is more like kindergarten. They both have lots of handwriting and teach beginning reading so by the end they'll have learned lots of phonics and will be reading some site words and 3-4 word sentences in the short story booklets. They'll also be learning beginning addition among other math skills outside of counting and number identification in K5. K5 continues the learning with more challenging work.This curriculum is spiral meaning that they do a really good review of the previous year so if your child is advanced then in my opinion K5 will probably be just fine bc it will have a review. Many say Abeka is a little more advanced by about 1 year, so K5 may be similar to a Grade 1 in other curriculums. The scope and sequence is on the Abeka website for both. Once you look at it you'll know which one is best for your child as you know where they are academically. I'd love to hear an update on what you choose and how it works out for you. @@kareng558 Abeka sells student kits that come with everything you’ll need for the student. Parent teaching materials are not included. You have to purchase a separate kit for that. You can also just buy individual items you want/need. I didn’t use parent kit for K4 but I did buy it for K5 although I will not need to use everything that comes in it. I did use everything in the student kits. Hope this helps.

One more question, I’m in Texas and I’m really confused in whether I should get parent led or accredited. Will it be okay if I don’t go accredited until the 6th grade? Please and thank you!

I have some questions because of a student missing classes most of last year and is entering the 8th grade. definitely needs some extra help in catching up. Reading is difficult because of some dislexia . How can we help him with catching up a whole grade now? Please respond or tell me how I can talk to someone?

Try your state homeschool association. They usually have someone you can talk to about some options. The curriculum providers typically have people on their help line for advise as well but they'll also want to sell you their books. You might look into contacting www.hslda.org for guidance as well. I recommend reading every day. Just keep practicing. One more thing, there is a lady named Colleen I heard speak who has a website called www.raisinglifelonglearners.com and I think they have some articles on their about teaching kids with dyslexia.
